Jimmy thanks for the narrative. I have a new appreciation for Knox. It would be hard to top that one. That one is going into my top 20.
AL: give us another week and then all the leaf peepers will start showing up.
Alan: that cord goes great with the hat. Evenly tanned color.
Jimmy, that Knox Premier, is it 2-toned welted? Very striking.
It's great to see all these hats guys, not a loser in the lot.
It was nice yesterday so I took to my bicycle in dairy country. Made this one myself. Silver Gray.
Bob: very nice silverbelly
Justin: congrats on the cavanagh edge. They are becoming very rare.
Motumber: I have just recently started making my own fedoras and westerns. Nice hobby. That pic is one of mine.
Today I will be wearing this outfit. Picture taken two days ago.
Ivory beaver fedora. Now that I have a handle on making hats, sort of, I am trying to make a vest similar to the one in the picture.
Have any of you noticed that the squirrels have been busy lately?
I forgot to show the inside view........ pure beaver

Rodkins, great fishing on the bay guy. I wish you would tell us what bait you are using to pull in such a beauty.
David: Nice color!
Justin: Nice find. Is that a cavanagh (spelling) edge I see on the brim or a welt?
Here is a new one I made for myself:
Charcoal color, low crown, 2 1/8 inch brim
Thanks guys.
Egghead: Good question. Yes, the pins left marks, but I have a brim cutter which is required to have the brim even all around. So, the pins were positioned on the extreme end because I knew I would be cutting that part off. The hat is 3 1/2 inches all around.
Here are some pictures of a Silver Gray Western that I made myself. 100% beaver. I really like it!
And here is one I made special for my daughter:
Sorry to have been absent. I have been pretty busy learning how to make hats. I have gotten the fedora bug so bad that I have taken...
I have spent $11,000 so far, just so I can work at my own pace. I need lots more hat blocks and flanges. Be prepared for $20,000, just for the basics.
Read all the books you can get your hands on and you will know what you need. Creative thinking is a must, in order to save money. Are you...
Great pictures on this page guys!
Jwalls, is that velour vintage? Winchester does not sell velours, and I am not sure if anyone in the US. makes them. You gotta love those velours.
doncarlos, I got a chuckle out of that one :D
I once read that the crown height of your hat should be the same as the distance from your chin to your eyes.
I agree with Tony. You will need a block and flange. Even then, you might wind up with a hat that shows evidence of having had a different style. Sometimes an iron (not too hot) will take out some of the dimples created from the new style, sometimes not. I did it and got dimples.
