Thanks, that was an interesting read. I am assuming that the Argentine rabbit hair that is referred to is actually a breed of rabbit called Rex. I have some experience with these skins. I have found out that there is a huge difference between Rex rabbit fur from Argentina and Rex from other...
I just got these from Gary White:
Very light brown/taupe color, 100% Beaver, Cavanagh Edge. 5 inches exactly open crowned with a 2 1/8 inch brim.
</table>
Dark Blue, 5 inches exactly open crowned, with a 2 1/8 inch brim. Long haired, trimmed with Luring grease added.
Thanks Alan. Here are two more that I just received last week from Gary.

I am not sure if Fepsa in Portugal sells hat bodies, but I can attest that they will sell you loose bleached beaver fur. I bought 5 lbs. from them. Rather expensive to import. Their website is: http://www.cortadoria.pt/ Contact: nuno.oliveira.figueiredo@cortadoria.pt Nuno speaks English.
Alan, great job! You made the right choice to use a block and flange. That hat stretcher would surely pop some stitches on a thin vintage borso.
A newly made block and flange set costs around $500.00. Ebay has used ones that occasionally are worth something.
There is a tool for removing the...
I finally got around to reading the latest Optimo Newsletter. In it he writes: "Using powders means they continue to put the byproduct of the hat into the hat."
Could it be that a hat of that same color is finely ground and sparingly mixed with another even finer product (fuller's Earth?) to...
Jeff: I love those bowlers/derby's you wear.
Here is one I like, it is I THINK from the movie Around the world in 80 days (not the 1956 version?).
Here is one I made-beaver-, it is my rain hat. We had 3" of snow this morning and still coming down. You gotta love Vermont. In the background...
AL: yes Sir! Optimo makes a hat like no other. I wear it on very special occasions, or sometimes just around the house to have it melt onto my head. I don't know how they do it.
Gary White is sending me 2 more next week he said. One is a taupe cavanagh (I got his last cav. he has in my size)...
AL: If you ever get tired of that Optimo Silverbelly, let me know. Smooth!
This is a wool felted hat. It came out pretty good. The felted edge is ALMOST perfect.
It's been a while since my last visit. Too many outstanding hats and names to mention. I'll just say, it warms my heart to see them all. Here is one I made and am wearing today.
I just noticed...my wool chocolate chip cookie coasters in the picture ....Having fun with wool
Scotty, you live up to your name with that fedora - you ROCK!
Fletch: I think the hat looks better on you. It is too small for him. :)
Lefty: Your wife always has panache. Even her simple hats/chapeaus look great. Nice pic of the fungus amungus.
And finally AL: my buddy, I know I am not...
Great photos, all!
AL: I stand in awe of your summer hat. Also, the picture of the ducks in the muck looks great. It has me thinking of making a felted portrait of it. Great subject matter.
Thanks for sharing AL and others.
