What was the last TV show you watched?

Will do, thanks! We have three months at the minute, though if it continues to provide what it does in proportion to what we get out of Netflix, I might ditch the latter then and keep D+ on for a while longer.

    Helmets didn't end hats, right?

I wonder if he's got a hair clip helping to hold it in place? If I tried that angle, I'd need toupee tape! ;) Those are the times I reach for a cap. I remember I even once wore a black beret with white tie because the venue didn't have a secure cloakroom... That's sometimes the first sign...

    Helmets didn't end hats, right?

Agreed. I've often suspected the 'bigger' hairstyles of the late 40s and the 50s were partially responsible for hats being eschewed as they wouldn't fit. But so many different things will have contributed. On the rockabilly scene here, you don't see so many of the younger guys wearing hats...

What was the last TV show you watched?

For a birthday on Friday, the wife and I were looking at films we've not yet been able to see / missed in the cinema for various reasons. Given that it turns out even 'renting' a digital copy of most recent releases is now the cost of a cinema trip and/or more expensive than a DVD, we instead...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

This is a style I like very much - very reminiscent of not only Sinatra, but Summer wear on the Confident, All-American Male Authority Figure type y see in early 1950s-era American public information films, promotions, and ads in the period. It would be great if Stetson did line of these akin...

    Helmets didn't end hats, right?

I'm sure there were men who came back from the war eschewing anything that reminded them of uniform, but it was by no means an identifiable norm. There were as likely as many more came back and wore a hat out of habit because they'd become so used to having something on their head. I'm pretty...

Are white leather boots more likely to scuff/look bad with wear?

Mn. Calfskin is common for a soft leather in shoes (though for a boot I prefer something with more heft, myself). Lambskin I've never heard of used in a shoe before, seems like it would be overly delicate. That's the main thing as would make me wary of these boots in terms of pure durability -...

    What are you wearing today??

Irish Saffron - the first 'Irish' kilt. Adopted in the Victorian period by a section of the Gaelic revivalists as a conscious bit of cultural appropriation when it was realised we'd somehow mot managed to preserve any form of distinct, Irish national dress that set the Irish apart from the...

Are white leather boots more likely to scuff/look bad with wear?

Yeah, they won't scuff any easier, but scuffs that happen will probably be more obvious on white leather. Not quite as easy to polish them out / hide them as on black leather. Doesn't remotely mean white leather is unwearable, though. It's a lot easier to live with than suede.

    What are you wearing today??

Me (right) with jive scene dance teacher and DJ the Rev Boogie at a dear, mutual friend's wedding on Saturday night. The bride had specifically requested I wear a kilt, so over the last few months I put together a new outfit. I managed not to take proper photos of my own (dur!) - lovely venue...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10838180/ Matrix: Resurrections It hit cinemas in 2021 when a lot of us were still covid-cocooning, or it might have had a lot more attention. Largely down to Covid and its impact, I didn't see anything in the cinema between Joker (Autumn 2019) and dial of Destiny...

Any vintage Zippo lighters collectors ?

I've tried the disposables, they were good - I'd like to try a refillable. I'm wary of gas, though - I spent a fair bit a few years ago on a refillable gas lighter but could never seem to get it refilled with more than a single use or two's worth of gas...

Aero has a new leather called Pinnacle

Wow, that's very red - but like a "natural" red if that makes sense. I like that a lot.

Have you guys seen this video about “styling leather jackets for adult men”…

Eh. These things come and go, I wouldn't lay any of it any mind. Dress codes (black tie, white tie, highland dress.... even venue or workplace specific) are one thing, but as soon as anyone starts insisting their subjective opinions are firm and fast "rules" for clothing, I just tune them out.

You know you are getting old when:

Got my first pair of reading glasses just recently. I'm good with middle-distance and long distance, spend my day in front of a computer or in a classroom, so no need for varifocals (at several times the price, no wonder opticians are keen to push them!). If I'm sitting down to read a newspaper...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Caught the latest Matrix - Resurrections - on streaming last night. Fun enough for a dumb action flick. Certainly head and shoulders above the tedious sequels to the fun enough (if vastly overrated) original picture. Reeves is a much more compelling screen presence than he was twenty years ago...

What is this forums most popular brand and jacket?

That's another take on it. Can't say I've ever felt penned in or limited by pre-1960 styles, but then I've never sought it out as anything other than clothes I like. It's a signifier of what an outlier Outerwear has become in recent years viz-a-vis the rest of TFL, though, that the notion of...

Opinion on fashion brand outerwear Acne, Mackage, The Arrivals, Sandro. How much of the price is the name?

Much depends on what you want to bracket as 'fashion' - I mean, ultimately, once we move beyond choosing the most available, purely utilitarian option and start buying for style / a particular look / perceived exclusivity, isn't it all fashion? It is sometimes possible to distinguish a niche...

What Cap Are You Wearing Today?

Thanks - the shirt is a Cathcart London (SJC as then was) from a couple of years ago. They vary year to year on the available colours; I hope they bring back the stripes sometime. Not the cheapest polo on the market, but I still wear the ones I have from the first run in 2016, and they're still...

What hat are you waiting for today?

Distinctly calls to mind Nell Campbell's hotpants in Rocky Horror Picture Show - Would love to know if whoever fitted it knew - or if that was the intent! Assuming it's not the original liner the hat would have had? I'm waiting on the first new fedora I've picked up in a year or two - an...
