Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

So it's supposed to be spring, no? My lilacs are budding and all my daffodils are in bloom. Today's Easter and we are suddenly in the midst of an ice storm. Sigh. Blows my evening plans right out of the water. Was supposed to get together with a friend. There's no possibility that I will get...

    Ladies out alone?

That's interesting, Hadley. Sometimes when I'm traveling for work I do have to go to restaurants by myself. I can't afford a super posh one, but if I'm in a conference hotel, then I'll eat in their (usually very nice) restaurant. Oddly enough I don't feel awkward about that. I suppose I assume...

    Round 5 Beauty Box Thread!

Fantastic! How do we do this? Should I PM you my address?? How will I get the address of the next person?

    Ladies out alone?

Last night I ventured alone to the Casa Loma Ballroom, a wonderful 1927 ballroom that is mostly still in its original state. The ladies' rooms are straight out of a 30s movie, with vanity seating and slipper chairs. I went because I very much wanted to hear the band, a local swing ensemble...

    Beautiful! Lovely photography, too.

    Round 5 Beauty Box Thread!

Ladies, I have at least five tubes of used-only-once-and-decided-didn't flatter-me red lipstick ready to go!

    Agony column?

I don't believe so, but they're definitely limited to women members.

    Round 5 Beauty Box Thread!

I think the fun is in joining in. I have enough red liptstick for both of us.

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

I'll do that, thanks Amateis. I constantly bring home books from the Public Library and find them so poorly written or boring or un-engaging that I bring them back half read. I really need some good suggestions. Here in St. Louis we have another bitter cold day. Tonight I have a date with my couch.

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

So nice to see so many new folks here. I'm looking forward to hearing your interesting views.

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

Lizzie, that comment is even more true today, six months later. I'm about to go hem a coat I made from an English 1941 pattern that cost approximately as much as an actual coat (slight exaggeration.) Meanwhile I'll watch all those women in their black ball gowns at the Golden Globes.

    Agony column?

Nathalie, do you have an HR department? This problem sounds too serious to try to handle all by yourself.

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

I wouldn't wash it by machine. Before you do anything, test an inconspicuous spot with cool water and a mild detergent. If the dye runs, just leave it alone. If everything looks ok, then carefully soak the dress in a basin of cool water & detergent, don't wring or twist it, and rinse with more...

    Agony column?

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions. I like the idea of planting trees! I just put in some tulip bulbs, since it's still quite warm here in St. Louis (it'll be 67 degrees today.) I might run out & get some more. It's this combination of dark mornings and dark evenings with the fact...

    Agony column?

Do any of you fine ladies get a case of the holiday blues? What do you do to stave them off? Asking for a friend.

    Vermont Country Store; Hard-to-find-items

I actually find Lehmann's more useful and more affordable. I love the VCS catalogue and have been receiving it since high school (so, a while) but I find their prices a bit high. They do have great sales online, though. I buy my Marvis toothpaste from the Italian Barber, because it looks...

Embarrassment Of Using The Restroom When With Men

I think this anxiety is fairly common, and of course few people like to talk about it. I know from personal experience & from conversations I've had with friends that the whole subject is fraught for some ladies. I agree with Lizzie that waiting too long can be bad for your health, so it would...

    Miniature Murder Scenes

Yes, it's astounding. I am actually considering traveling to DC to see this, not that I can afford the trip. Here's the exhibit web page. You can enlarge the photos & get really good detail: https://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/nutshells
