Thanks for the kind offer, but sadly that is going to be too small.
You know...I went to a local hat shop in the hills (never been there, an hour away and a tricky drive), and l tried on the owners personal 1920's boater. It fit me perfectly and looked great on me. Certain hats absolutely pop...
@Rmccamey yes, those harder hats will take time to find the right fit; they either fit or they don't, there isn't any wiggle room like with the softer felts.
I have thought about developing a system with measurements, and since you mentioned it here it is probably a good basic starting point...
Wow, l have read a bunch of boater threads, but l have never seen this one.
@Edward Of course this is sensible advice, nothing quite like trying a hat on in person. The boaters in my area aren't that good, and none over the last couple of years have fit me, so it is going to be a waiting game...
They look to be the same make.
1). How is a boater supposed to fit?
2). Do these fit true to size? Anyone have a boater from these sellers?
3). Do they shrink?

Yes, the hatband is not very nice, l really don't know why they use that one. I would like a braided hat band.
I have an old scout hat from the early 80's that has those exact grommets, and the make is exactly the same as the sombrero. I am willing to bet my old scout hat was made by Akubra.
The Sombrero is definitely worth it, you will have it for years. Just imagine if they stopped making it, you would have so many regrets. It is not the type of hat you see around.
Here you go, a size 62 from oz. We are awash with sombreros over here.

Purchased the Akubra sombrero today, it is certainly a big hat with loads of character. So glad l bought it.
My Bates homburg has a huge crown, but compared to this Akubra sombrero it is tiny.
My favourite hat
Some shots of the sombrero in action. The curl of the brim, the crown, the...
My Akubra homburg (inside)
What l find odd is that they use a cheap PVC plastic,so it doesn't give me confidence in what that white lining may be.
Does any know what materials they use in this hat and why they use clear plastic in the center?
(green kitchen sponge under the headband at the...

It is the sombraro cordobes by the Fernandez Roche company. The quality is very good, a really solid hat. I was very lucky to get it, the owners of the shop (American Tailors) were in Italy and only brought back 6 of these hats. These hats are so striking and...
Got this little beauty today. Have been wanting this style for years, and soon as l saw it l bought it. An unexpected purchase. It is a really solid hat.
You live close to me (90 minutes away), and l want to visit your shop, but l would like to ask some questions first.
1). I understand wool/felt hats shrink because they get stretched over the hat block but shrink back to their original size over time. So....when l buy an Akubra, should l buy...
Bought a wonderful pair of classic shoes by Silvano Lattanzi. It is always a treat when l buy shoes from this maker, a real special occasion to be celebrated.

Gee, that dust certainly shows up with the camera flash.
Can't say for sure, but from experience those types of designer boots are cheaply made with cheap leather (likely a cheap rand, cheap uppers, cheap insoles); and like the video says, probably cheap plastic heels. Not sure about the construction, but maybe a blake construction if you are lucky...
GBH, I am really loving the blazer, the wide trousers and the shoes. Really loving the style. I think we like similar things. I really need a blazer, have been thinking about getting one made for a while now.
I have always loved wide trousers. My trouser width at the hem are 10 inches (20...
Update.......
got the Lawrence and Foster cap and it fits perfectly.
Fits true to size.
My head is 23.5 inches and the size 60 corresponds to slightly over 23.5 inches (23 5/8).
Ordered the Garforth cap.
Will be ordering more.
How many inches are you around the head, would you be able to do a quick measure?
Why does the Garforth cap have a point on the top of the cap, like a horn? Surely it is not like that in real life.
