Thanks, a better description there, he used fiebings dark brown spirit based dye which I can get.
I understand how to dye it now.
Still not sure what to use to prep the jacket first, what to use as a final finish [would pecards do or do you need something special] and how much dye to buy as I...
I've asked so many questions because whenever i try to do anything like this it normally ends in disaster.
He doesn't mention if he treated the leather first before dyeing and for fiebing there are two types of dye, oil and spirit.
Tandys dye which others here have used comes in water and oil base.
I live in Perth, and sadly lacking in just about any type of thing or service related to vintage clothing.
The things you guys over east and overseas take for granted are just non existent here.
The only place I could find here that might do it said it can't be done, if they tried they could do...
I just got this buzz rickson rough wear and though I'm sure there are fans of the colour but it's not for me. I would like to keep it as it's the best fitting A2 i've ever had so my only option is a home redye to dark brown.
I know this is going to kill the value but I'm willing to take the...
I forgot, also B-15 modified in replica.
Plenty of pics and comparisons of them on old posts at the VLJ, just do a search for alpha replica.
http://www.vintageleatherjackets.org
That was a good buy and in mint condition well worth it.
But the replicas where way superior jackets and not too inferior when compared to a buzz rickson at the the time when they where made.
I can't comment on any alpha jackets that came later on that are still called replica, i have no...
Also some might have snaps for the bottom or two buttons.
Snaps are probably more durable, those buttons at the bottom will get the most strain when done up, but I like the older look of buttons.
Best to ask if you have a preference.
I remember when the replica and vintage series came out, i saw them in a shop in London, the replicas where vey good they came in actual sizes like 40 42 etc.
The blue was darker like an original b-15, the vintage series where a light blue, the greens where the same the replicas being darker...
For those who can afford the extra $ the headwind A1 will be a better jacket.
$525 or $575 tailored, I don't know what their mailing costs are, a great price compared to the big name makers and they always get good comments about their jackets here and on the vintage leather jacket forum.
For me...

Away from home for a week but while try to post a pic
when I get back.
Mothfighters pic on page 1 of the thread is a 40.

I'm going to get some spearpoint collar shirts made by natty.
My suits are all late 40s and 1950s.
Does anyone have pictures of collars i could send to natty to copy and any suggestions for collar length.
Non fused collar and cuffs would be period correct?
Thanks for any help
Seems like a jacket you need to see on you to see how good they actually look, I was never really interested in them either but as soon as i put the jacket on i really liked it, actually prefer it to my A2.
I don't think even original A1's where made of thick leather, the goatskin on this is fine, hard to describe the thickness, the leather is soft and subtle but not too thin.
I was the same as you, on the fence about if it was my style but took a chance, it does look good on and being more...
Hi Joakim,
My 40 jacket measurements matched the sellers size chart, with maybe a few mm's difference.
A size 40 is large on the chart, 38 is medium, if you don't see it click on the product details tab.
You could alway ask them to measure the jacket they are going to send before you buy it...
