20 months for a jacket .. I wouldn't wait 20 weeks .. heck I struggle with 20 DAYS ( I just bought a custom adapted model A Vanson at $599 and the wait time is 8 weeks and I honestly baulked at that ).
I'd go BK .. I have had a couple of BK's and the workmanship is easilly on a par with all...
it will indeed ..... but that doesn't man it'll be floppy and broken in ... that'll take some hours in the saddle that will :D
Enjoy the process ...... beat it or it'll beat you :)
Looks like Warhawk ... that'll be a substantial jacket ( my Simmons Bilt in CXL Steer took some wearing to break in but is now amazing to wear and soft and floppy after @18 months )
Get the posing pics up when it arrives .. I'm liking the "Harrington Style" pockets :D
My long Halfbelt is MWHH and is the perfect weight of leather. CXL in FQHH or Steer is a substantial jacket and weight in at a mighty heavy weight ( my Barnstormer is 7 1/2 lbs ( 3.5Kg) ) and I just don't wear it .... I had a VDR in heavy CXL HH and it weighted in at over 8lbs (4Kg). I had a...
I've bought a few GREAT Mall jackets ... 3 of which I still have .. .all from TK Maxx ( TJ Maxx in the USA).
Chevignon Nubuck VDR/Lavant style coat ..... superb steerhide Nubuck, incredibly well made ... £149.95.
Schott Black Steerhide Suede Blazer ... again awsome jacket ...... £139.95...
On a NEW jacket 40-50% is around the norm ( hence why ... unless I really fancy a jacket or I am getting a bargain on the sale or outlet pages .. I seldom buy "new" .... although I have purchased 2 bespoke designed and genuine NEW Alexanders this year !) Outlet jackets I may do 3 or 4 a year...
They go in the classifieds and then on the bay .... but then nowdays that's were I mostly purchase .... seems to return about 115% of the original investment overall on about 45 purchases in the last 5 years. The plus is I've got to wear some great jackets and the closet now only has 11 leathers...
I remember doing a fairly detailed workup based on ACTUAL machinist and cutter wages ( from discussions with Aero / Scott Leathers / BKS / Dobbs and a few others ) and also the ACTUAL cost of raw materials ( hide / lining / thread etc.) and also with (fairly accurate for the time - 2007 )...
It's very similar to the label on the early "Highwayman Deluxe" jackets .. similar style and typeface. The zipper ( Talon ?) and the steerhide suggest a small run batch, late 80's early 90's but I'm sure Cloudylemonade will have greater info and records.
Very nice ... and much better pattern by the looks of them .... just need 70 years ageing on them and they'll be perfect :) ( if only there was a quick way to age these jackets and still deliver a result which remotely resembles the actual ageing process ).
Having had a few Irvins the age...
if you're just gonna pose in it ... then get the smaller one ... if you're gonna actually wear it on a bike you'll need the longer sleeves of the larger one ( which fits like a bike jacket should )
For me it would be too short for on the bike and a bit wide at the waist ... the waist can be nipped in easilly ( through a taper on the side seams ( an easy mod for the likes of Julie Leitch .... who makes an awful lot of jackets !)
The length however is MUCH more difficult to resolve ...
There are many photos on here of me wearing it .... do a search
Based on the leather jackets from the 40’s and 50’s very similar to the Aero "Highwayman" ( It’s made by the same ex-Aero machinists, cut by the same ex-Aero cutters from the same materials as Aero used through the 80’s. 90’s...
Pretty small and pretty short IMHO ..... 1-2" sides and 1" in the sleeve ( these will shorten with wear ) ... chest looks neat .. but then I'm not a big fabn of tight leather jackets ( as many on here already know)
The single width belt loops are about 1/2-3/4" wide ( similar in style to those seen on the PJ-27 ) the generally had a stud fastener at the top ... the double width loops ( pic of the J-27 in post 27) are as shown on the J-27 and J-15 which are about 1 3/4" - 2" wide and were a fixed feature on...
Nice .... it's got a bit of a "Goodwear" feel about it ..... what sort of price point and wait time are we talking about ( purely for comparison )
Wear it well .. looks great :D
Trapp .. I'm sure the Diner will have a comment ( and he's the resident expert on vintage jackets TBH) ... from what I have seen Buco contracted to supply Ralph Edwards / Brooks and Reed and also manufactured for Sears Roebuck and particularly Sears own M/C brand Allstate ( thre are various...
Good catch Diner ... didn't see the size tag pic before ( didn't even see the size tag pic before :D) .. so I concur it is a J-27. As per previous comments the J-15 would have a female size 10/12/14/16 etc.
One this that had surprised me about the Buco jackets is how few of the snap on...
