Can't say I've had any problems with all 9 Alexanders jackets I currently have :) none of the stitching has given up, none of the sleeves have fallen off and they've been as good as any ( if not better re. customisation and delivery IMHO ) I've also traded and sold 4 or 5 with no issues (...
The wind flap on my Vanson Model B was on the LHS ..... which seems to be a US thing to do. The windflap on my first Schott Cafe Racer was also on the LHS ( my second one didn't have a windflap at all).
However, the windflap on my AN6552 is on the RHS .... which seems a very non-US thing to...
I have had a variety of jackets with strap cuffs ( Aero Californian, Alexander Adventurer, Alexander Modified Oakland) I have never had the cuff catch on anything and find them very practical especially on my bike.
For many years the Californian was my "travelling jacket" and it did ove a...
Not really ... tag on to those producing with the main manufacturers ..... and those who have the appropriate accreditation and controls.
They manage to keep controls and checks on sourcing of raw materials ( hide, linings, tartans) so it shouldn't be any more difficult in my experience.
The Jacket industry in general ( but more particularly the leather jacket industry ) has a rather poor history of legal acrimony IMHO ..... some of it of a particularly petty and nonsensical variety ..... some of it quite nasty and vitreolic :(
Stay out of the affairs of jacket makers ...
Nice jacket ... and I would echo others views that Korea ( and Vietnam) really know how to make a jacket .... it's no surprise that most of Goretex and Rukka's top end jackets are made in these regions costs are low and quality is exceptional.
I am always surprised that repro manufacturers...
I like that VDR copy ... in fact the Sam Walkers were really nice jackets and were often made of much more pliable leathers than Aero ( which was a good thing IMHO) ... I have had a few VDR copies, Stockman types and a couple of their Highwayman copies and all have been fine and stood the test...
I have purchased 8 Orvis jackets on Ebay ... as follows :
Nubuck Field Jacket (made in China mid 2000's) ... really nice well made jacket ( Marked Medium fitted like a UK L-XL)
Suede Chore Jacket ( Made in Vietnam mid 2000's) ... again well made unlined jacket but HUGE marked Medium fitted...
I've had a couple of Aero Cordovan jackets and a few Alexanders Burgundy jackets and not had very much o note ... a little on the collar of a white shirt or two after a few long and sweaty journeys on the London tube and a tiny bit of bleed through after a torrential downpour with my Cordovan...
Have to agree that the Vanson offering is significantly better value ( from a MC jacket perspective) than the Schott offering ( both quality and construction) .... although I don't really see Vanson as a fashion brand whereas I DO see Schott as one ( and have done for many years)
As a biker I could NEVER ride a bike in anything as close fitting as the Thurston fit .... at least not cmfortably :)
Having the jacket tight won't stop it riding up ( the body's momentum is far greater than the resistance to rucking of leather) .... it'll just mean it'll be uncomfortable (...
I think it's brave of them to even put fit pictures ... and I'm not sure how nesessary they are ! ( Many of us buy from Aero, Lost Worlds and Eastman and quite frankly they have very few "fit" pics on their website ... most of the jacket pics are on mannequins or just superimposed by photoshop...
Winter ....
Eastman ANJ-4
Non-Winter :
Alexanders "Adventurer" custom build .. Horween Brown Warhawk
Bike :
Alexanders "Detroit" in Horween Bison
In Non-Leather :
Schott 1980's 740N Naval Peacoat ... one of the finest coats ever produced IMHO !!!
The BAB ( Born Again Biker) is not a new concept .... although it maybe new for some on her as it originated in the 70's :)
I don't care what you ride, or how you ride .... I try not to judge ..... your model/map/style may not be my model/map/style, but you're on two wheel;s and that's...
I don't have many button jackets ... but the only button that ever came off of one3 was on a schott 740N peacoat .... and it was easy to sew back on .. even for a sewing numpty like me :D
Don't fret .... use it like it was intended, wear it hard and wear it well .... if Stu's buttons are...
According to the stats ... 341,000 attended the 2012 world tour ( 35 locations ) .... add to the list those who detail them as their major influences inc. Dave Grohl etc. etc.
I guesss the same way associative marketing works for a Ramones / Stones / AC/DC / Beatles / U2 ... T-shirt
or...
I've just ordered one ..... I should point out that I have been a "Rush Fan" for nigh on 35 years ... in fact this was my nickname up till I was 25 or so ...... and seen them in concert more than a dozen times and actually cover a few of their songs with the band. I saw this in the flesh at the...
