Aero Collectors - this is what a 30 year old Aero Motorcycle Jacket Looks Like. I haven't seen one this old in 25 years of collecting so it's a rare beast!
The Aero Motorcycle Jacket ( following the 1987 commission from Tussauds ) became something of an icon .... however Aero was making M/C...
Just to clarify ...it is Conelly Steerhide ( which was used extensively in early Aero's ) it mic's up at 1.0 -1.3 mm ( 2.8 -3oz based on the general rule of thumb that 1/64th" or 0.4mm = 1oz ) and is utterly pliable unlike the stiff as a board horsehide and steerhides we see today.
If only a...
Theyve had little wear to be honest as I've been wearing converses and shoes most of the summer ... the Beckmans have been worn 4 or 5 times ( more dressy than the Clarks so wear them to work )
I guesse it depends what finish you want ... I have a number of "Full Grain" jackets which have a distinctly inconsistent finish and which show scarring and marks. Whereas I have a topgrain goatskin jacket which is possibly the nicest aged leather you could ever imagine and shows amazing...
Always :D .... they all get pampered Mike.
A lot of what was on it when it arrived was road/ general dirt not patina ... dirt is not patina ... dirt is dirt ! ( I never understood the kick it around the floor it looks cool philosophy) :( kick it round the floor by all means but clean it...
Not sure fit pics on a jacket that is much too big are going to add anything ( steady boys .... Before you all say " all of your jackets fit like that ! " )
. I simply posted it to show what a 30 year old Aero jacket ages like ...... I have never seen a 30 year old Aero jacket posted before...
This has plenty of room in the waist Edward ... I'm a 34" ( 36" over my jeans and Sweatshirt and it's loose on full adjustment on the belt ) ..... it's a really big made 44" ( significantly bigger than my 44" 50's HB )
The Aero Motorcycle Jacket ( following the 1987 commission from Tussauds ) became something of an icon .... however Aero was making M/C jackets before 1987 but few ever come up in good condition. So imagine my surprise last week when one ( very badly described) one came up on ebay .. it looked...
Nice .. the Donkey jacket just took this a step further and minimised the leather outer layer to cut costs to the max. I do have a real soft spot for the donkey jacket though .... it was the working mans choice of coat in the 1920's .... through to the early 1990's ( and the students choice in...
I know they did have some plastic taping they used a few years ago but the one I had had leather taping and I believe they current ones do ( I saw one a few months ago in the USA ... ) the zips were YKK ( or perhaps a YKK copy) and for $350 or £200 it looked like a steal ..... nice fit as well.
Decent ALC Irvins go for around £300 .... which is round about what most Irvins ( Eastman and Aero ) go for TBH Edward ..... I bought an early 2000's Aero 6 months ago for £175 and an Eastman B-6 ( which was too small so got sold on ) for £317. I sold my 42" ALC Irvin for £375to a chap in...
Having owned a few Irvins .... my favourite was my Eastman "Battle of Britain" which wa a great jacket even with it's RiRi zippers ( which were much better than the DoT originals IMHO ) ... just the right thickness and weight and a really good fit ( for me).
The ALC in the lightweight fleece...
The coat you posted looks remarkably similar to the Aero VDR ( Vest De Rallye) or the Alexanders Lavant ... both of which are great longer coat options. I had my black Alexanders Lavant cut slim in the body and it give and much neater fit ( 29" back) .. and it works really well.
Aero's Long...
based on the P4 photos .... 2" body and 1" arms gets my vote ....... the major would say it's too long and too big ( private joke ... schitzo will get it ... Sloanie will copy it to the major :D)
