What is the overall condition of the coat? All I have seen is the label. (It’s got some scribbling on it. So, I know it’s not an unissued in mint condition example)

Zen, are you going to pick that pea coat up? I couldn’t wear it, but if you’re not going to move on it, I’m sure someone else here would like to pick it up to wear or just for its rarity.

I was just looking at the label before I read your responses. I agree that it looks legit. That was my first impression. However, my other first impression was: What the hell is this?
It will be interesting to find out what he gets.

I’ve always had good luck with Levi’s jackets, but I always get vintage, USA made ones from or close to the Big E era. They’re always number sized. The only one I’ve purchased that I didn’t care for, and I can’t explain it, was a tan colored, corduroy Sherpa lined jacket. It was from around 1970...
You could be right and maybe I spoke too soon. I’ve just always known the moc toed 877’s as the “Irish Setter.” I do know that nick name is taken from the color of the boot. That said, I have seen a vintage pairs of 877’s, from the 70s or there about, with an Irish Setter label on them.

^ That’s a damn shame about the Red Wing 899’s, but the Red Wing Irish Setters weren’t the 899’s. They’re the iconic moc toed 877’s along with their shorter 875 counterparts.

I second that. I’m not very smart, but have been able to navigate Rakuten a few times, successfully. I’ve always paid via PayPal, it only after I’ve gotten the all clear from the particular store prior. You want to make sure that they ship to the aunties States. If they say yes and that they...
It’s a shame about Chippewa. They used to be so well made and functional. I bought a pair of black leather, lace-up Chips in the early 90’s for my work as a paramedic. They had to protect my feet from what may happen while on duty. So, they had a steel shank and toes. They were built like tanks...
Looks to be a 1973, U.S. Navy peacoat. I think you did ok for $38. But, yeah, this certainly belongs in the long running, official peacoat thread.

Yeah, don’t be cheap and inconsiderate. Use a bag and a new box. Make sure the jacket will lie nicely in the box. However you can save yourself some money in shipping by making the box as short as possible. By that, I mean do not leave additional box room above the jacket.
Do the right thing...
No, it necessarily. Some city departments did not where shoulder patches. LAPD did not unless they were a motor officer. They still don’t. Anyhow, I saw several of their leather patrolman jackets from the 1960’s and earlier. They had no shoulder patches. I believe that in the 70’s many LAPD...
It cost $1350 if you purchase it, here in the United States, from HPA. Just follow the link provided by the OP.
Edit: Oops, Charles beat me to it

@Big Man , if you look a few posts above there is a full description of what you are looking to restore in your dining room courtesy of Vitanola. Seems it’s called a rosette.

Sweaters can be addictive. I just got Filson’s 3GG crewneck sweater, today.
EDIT: After my original post, I bought two of Filson’s 4GG sweaters that I couldn’t find in Manhattan or online, in my size. Earlier today, I called customer service to inquire but was on hold for a while and had to...
Oh yeah, the pockets aren’t centered guy, right? Oh well, for some reason those guys pop-up. I’d think people would have important things to put their energy into, unless he considers trolling an unimportant but fun hobbby. Pathetic.
