That ELMC horsehide G-1 is pretty darn cool; I agree with @Big J that making a G-1 out of leather besides the usual goat is a good thing and only increases the appeal of the well-designed G-1.
Afew years ago I ordered an M-422 from BK and it was made of mountain goat hide, which is kind of like...
@Flightengineer we can steer and pilot the vessel seated or standing. However when you’re “on final approach” and about to dock the vessel, we always stand up for visibility and easier manipulation of the twin engine controls and the helm (steering wheel).
Another “bomb cyclone” Nor’easter hitting the East Coast hard. Rain/snow/sleet mix with choppy seas and 50-60mph wind gusts. Got the old Navy-issue deck jacket on today.
That’s a repro from the 1980’s so the 1940 reference and the mention of it being among his WWII-serving father’s things is a bit misleading.
It is in excellent, brand-new condition but it is definitely not a WWII jacket.
My “work” jacket, a US Wings G-1 in black goatskin. After 3 days of almost non-stop rain, it’s finally a dry day here in NYC but a possible Nor’Easter is forecast for later this week!:(
I have a custom US-A goatskin G-8 and the overall quality of the jacket and the superb workmanship (plus the very short wait time) make it worthy of the approximately $500 price tag. Just my opinion, of course, but it seems many manufacturers are raising prices the past few years and finding a...
I’ve been wearing my black USW G-1 at work the past couple of weeks (it’s been “earning it’s salt” as old sea dogs would say). We’ve been getting lots of fog in the harbor lately; cold, wet, clammy, and thick. It rolls in as a ghostly mist then solidifies into an impenetrable smoke-like density...
Thx @Big J. The GW jacket was a gorgeous red/russet DuBow and it had superb workmanship. My tastes changed (as they often do) and I wanted a more plain “brown” russet A-2 that looked more utilitarian so I bought a Lost Worlds.
Maybe manufacturers of high-demand/long wait time products and services should provide an order number and post current production numbers on their website. Just like a crowded NYC deli, you would get a number and can see the “now serving number...” Then you can decide if the wait is worth it...
Found this beauty on eBay at a good price. Made by Passaic Leather Co. The leather is thick and strong and has superb graining and patina. Most of my jackets are G-1’s and afew A-2’s and civilian jackets; this is my first vintage police jacket and I’m very happy to add it to my collection!
I just came across this post (sorry I’m late to the party!:p) and I’d like to put in my two cents. As a retired Senior Chief, I can say that the way it works for us is that you get a one-time uniform allowance stipend upon promotion to Chief Petty Officer. It is enough to pay for the bulk of...
Thank you @Wallman; this is definitely the best fitting A-2 I’ve ever owned. Sometimes you just get lucky on an eBay purchase (I’ve had plenty of bad luck too on the ‘Bay:confused:).
@navetsea had a great post about braving the rain to get to his tofu place; today was torrential rain but it didn’t stop my wife and I from hitting our local ramen restaurant. I’m sporting my Willis & Geiger A-2 and a well-used Filson field satchel.
