They absolutely wear the belt right on the jacket, more out of necessity than anything else, as gear needs to be right at hand. Modern police jacket makers typically offer two options, for wearing the belt on the jacket, or a very short jacket to wear above the gun belt but not cover anything...
Good observation on the collar, as I noticed it looked a little wide also. (although it is a very short collar, more similar to those on racing shirts) So, I took out the tape measure and pushed the collar flat and measured its width. It turns out it is 1/2" narrower than my DD J-100, and the...
The biggest difference seems to be the lack of a top coat on the Thedi HH, which makes it softer and more supple. This jacket seems to be slightly thicker than Vincenza, but just by a little bit.
I like that it really doesn't extend down the back, keeping a nice clean look back there, so from the front you have the shoulder padding, and from the back just the elbow pads.
It's not as important as on the Vansons because this jacket is not nearly as stiff as they are, but it's nice to have it as an option, especially when layering under the jacket.

A good example that you can't always get excited about the whole "one piece back" thing... without any other detail it's very boring. About an inch too long for my taste also.
This is the second Thedi jacket I have purchased though Thurston, the first now lives with a new owner in Australia, and this one will be used almost exclusively for riding. The HH is similar, but slightly thicker and with more grain than my first one. (although that one did develop more...
$499 - $695 is attractive, but I am still not a fan now that I see the back. To me, the basic brown and black don't look high quality, but it's hard to tell from pictures.
It's typically just wax from inside the leather that has leeched out to the surface. Take a shoe brush and buff it well. Some of the wax will come off on the brush and as the leather warms up some will reabsorb into the hide.
