I cant comment on Smithbilt as I've never seen one. As for Magill, the hats arent bad. They make basic styles with the fur coming from Czek or Poland so they are decent for the money. But they arent a Biltmore .
None of the companies today make a regular production hat in a long oval. Its a shame because we get requests for long and even wide ovals all of the time.
The Heritage line: 504, 507 , Spitfire -the classics are all made in Chins. There are caps made in Italy and England but in various patterns such as tweeds and window panes.
Selco was a mens hat store located in Williamsburg Brooklyn . They closed up the shop last year after being in business for many years. The hat Aureliano has is pre 1954. That when the store was on Robeling st. Today the owner is the distributor of the Selentino brand from Tonak. They had many...
Hat Life was a great magazine for the industry. Unfortunately, all that is left is a monthly email from the ownership of Hat Life about anything remotely related to hats . We've come very far since the 1950's!!!

Elmers Glue... it works great. I unfortunately have reglued hundreds of Borsalino liners over the years. For some reason , they cant use a stronger glue to keep the liners in. sewing them in is too expensive.

Its sad that the factory is closing. From what I was told, none of the workers are going to Texas. But then there were probably only 15 people left in the whole factory. They made the best production hat in the USA. They also would do special orders which is a good thing in this business...
I cant believe it went for that much. I stopped bidding on it once it hit 200.00. For some reason, it looks to me as if it were retrimmed. The crown seems very high to me. Anyway, it is a beautiful hat.
Maclachlan Hats
There is a rare hat on Ebay now. A White Mac Lachlan hat from the 1950's. I've never seen one before but someone has bid the price way up. If its someone on the lounge, its all yours!!!
I was waiting for someone on the lounge to report this. Yes, it's true. Dorfman Pacific who does own Biltmore is moving everything down to the Milano Hats Factory in Garland. They own that too. They will make the Biltmore brand there. How they will look is anyones guess. All of the hat stores...
I actualy found an original Nostalgia hat that Stetson made in the late 1980's. It was a size 7 5/8 in Caribou. It was in the back of my store without a label. I sold it with one hour after putting on the shelf . I didnt even know it was there.

I would love to start selling them. I think they are the closest manufacturer to Borsalino .But there are certain individulas who do not wish to see Cervos sold in the USA. They are available from a few retailers now but very limited. Perhaps next year will be different.
