What I have heard from the Milano hat factory is that is taking a little time for the workers to get used to making dress hats . The Milano factory is mostly a western factory and the workers arent used to making dress hats. But I think they will get it right.
Anybody on the FL live near...
Wow, I have to say this is the first I've heard about Beaver Brands closing although I'm not suprised. After Hatco, there is little left to the hat market in the USA. Bollman does little fur felt and Biltmore is gone , moved to the Milano Hat factory in TX. Beaver Brands never could compete...
I cant imagine how many people today would actualy want to wear a top hat . Its a far cry from 100 years ago when most men had two top hats in their wardrobe: a silk topper and a collapsable opera top hat.
I think making the material used to create a true silk top hat is a lot more difficult than people realize. Al though I cant imagine spending 4000 pounds on a hat either!!
Bollman does make fur felt but it is a fraction of the production . We used to buy many of their fur felts but they are concentrating on the wools. They make the best wool hats today.
I have seen some of his hats over the past few years. They are nice but very expensive. As for the trim work, one would best use Art Fawcett as his custom hats are the best on the market for the price.
I doubt any soft hats exixst from this factory. They are gone so many years already. From what I was told , they were the largest har manufacturers ariubd the turn of the century.
The Colony name just got reused 13 years later. There are style names that companies use over and over throughout the years that are very different each time.
Its called a pinch protector. We used to give them out years ago. You could cut the piece to make it lower if needed. I think they are still made on Germany .
