I'm glad that Mike got a lot of the good stuff. I saw a picture with Graham from Optimo as well. I know he buys all types of stuff for his store. Now I wish I was there.
Does anybody know if there were any wooden flanges there? I saw a lot of blocks but no flanges.
I spoke to a fellow hatter who went down to the auction today. He told me that most of the "good stuff" was already sold off over the past few months. I guess we will here about what was left over shortly.
Very interesting!! I'm sure there will be many hatters making a trip down there. I spoke to one of the major factories here and they aren't interested in the machinery. I hope it stays here in the USA. Anybody going to the auction.?
Its a shame that no one wants to try and do it today. I've had lond discussions with the management from Hatco who claim to know how to create the Cav edge again but claim its too expensive.
You know that Mayser isnt making their hats in Germany anymore. I think most of the production was moved to Slovakia. Im not happy ..No more custom work. They will only make whats in their catalog.
Thats the problem with manufacturers, every style will fit differently. We send out hats all of the time and they come back because the are too big or small.
There is no consistancy . You would think a size 7 1/8 would always be the same. Nope!
The truth is that most customers have NO idea thats hats are made of rabbit felt. When we tell them they think we are joking. Most people thibk hats are made of wool.
Too bad no one can come up with a synthetic fur to replace rabbit and beaver felt.
