The Borsalino museum( now closed) has examples of other Italian hats pre WW II. I picked one up the last time I was there. It was from the original Vanzina factory. I remember the felt was so nice, it felt like butter. Almost like a Vimenet hat.
Those lists are very interesting. I see that there may be a few more sources out there but they are probably very small workshops that have one or two people working. I do know that Vimercarti makes for other factories such as Guerra. I know that Borsalino does outsource as well on their...
There isn't one original factory left from those lists. Borsalino , Panizza, and Baribisio have all moved and been bought out a few times over. All the others are long gone.
The biggest problem with these smaller manufacturers is that they are difficult to find. None of them have any websites so you need to contact the Italian trade commission and this takes a lot of work. If you know of any other smaller factories, I'd love to know about them .
There are others....
Vimercarti is a small hat maker in Monza . I believe there are three people left in the factory making hats for other manufacturers such as Guerra.
I remember seeing those initials in a German hat supply catalog some years ago. Im not sure if todays hat wearer would even appreciate them. I'd love to get some myself.
Having visited many hat factories over the years, I have to say that Isesa is the cleanest hat factory you will ever find. The plant is fairly new , having moved from the center of Seville some years ago. If you visit, ask for Miguel Gutierrez. He is the manager . A very nice person.
I wonder which store you brought it to in NYC. Come to Brooklyn and I'd love to check it out for you. From the pictures the hat looks to be from the 1930's.

I bid on that Stetson hat but I had a feeling it would end up going at a very high price. There aren't that many hats from the 1920's out there anymore.
