So I took a trip out to Everything Australian today!
I had planned to do this before I even came to Melbourne but it became even more of an imperative because I’ve never even handled a Campdraft and none of the other three hat stores in the area have any in stock at the moment. That BGG is sure...
I adore this hat more and more everyday.
It’s also getting dirtier and dirtier everyday...
a naphtha bath is on the horizon.
The Champ on the dresser has become a space holder... too bad, it’s a great hat, too.
I’m in Melbourne now. Australians like to wear felt hats, and I see mostly Akubras. They like their Akubras and you won’t be out of place in one here whatsoever. On the contrary, I feel conspicuous in my Stetson.
When I travel on planes (which I do a lot), I put my hat on top of my luggage in...
My biggest inconsistency was that all three Akubras I have owned previously have been size 58 and shrunk down to perfect fit within weeks of purchase. The FED IV, however, was massive and I still have two small clippings form those size modifier tape things (there’s a proper name for those...
The color in my FED IV looks nothing at all like the one in the photo, not even in the sunlight.
I had actually hoped to get up to Katoomba while visiting Australia and go to the Hattery once again to compare colors and blocks within certain models (especially the FED IV’s). Unfortunately, I...
This probably doesn’t go here but I’m not sure where else to put it.
An old flame just came out to visit me at the yurt along with an old friend of ours. We were all in Egypt together during the Arab Spring, haven’t seen each other in seven years but just happened to be in the same place at the...
Thank you Cornshucker! I say it all the time myself! :p
It got its first new stains already. Argh, why is my perfect hat white in color!! I’m watching old Jimmy Stewart movies these days thinking, ‘Man, my hat’s gonna look like his soon enough.’
:(
Houssitting my friends’ Kazakhi yurt.
It’s been bloody hot here in Melbourne the last few days: 40+ degrees Celsius (104 F) has driven us to our bare necessities but you couldn’t pry this hat off my had!
Cooler today but I’m still in swim trunks.
*1950s 3X Stetson with genuine Asiatic yurt...
Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. On the basis of your advice I think I’ll wear the outfit to show here in Melbourne tonight and see how it works for me. Cheers!
Haha, thanks! That red cloth was a blindfold we used for a performance a few years ago. I’ve been wearing it as a neck tie ever since. It compliments all of my hats in unique ways.
This is by far the most “cowboy” I’ve ever looked and I’m not sure I like it (even with the sandals, which would...
Was gifted a pair of dungarees today to go with my new (for me) Stetson....
These are some spiffy jeans... their stiffness and durability remind me of the U.S. Navy bell bottoms we wore 20 years ago when I was serving.
Been a few years since I was seen in western trousers though...
The 3X...
The Stetson got it’s first sky juice test today. No leaks, shrinkage or bad orders - nothing but warmth and good cheer. When I get 60 - 70 years of age I hope I will be able to say the same about myself!
Cheers,
Nathan
