We had proof of heritage all the way back to the 1820s with a bunch of hearsay about the connection to the Revolutionary vet. It was a tangled web from there but my folk still untangled a few mysteries and cleared up a bunch of misinformation then the final link was made:
The Daughters of the...
I was thinking about your situation the other day. Don’t you have anybody in the U.S. willing to forward eBay purchases to you from sellers who won’t ship internationally? I’d offer my services to you but I’m never in one place long enough - my mother has to forward hats to me in Asia.
I am quite proud to be home on the day my mother found the evidence necessary to prove my father’s heritage back to the American Revolution. My great great great great great (?) grandfather fought in a North Carolina militia unit. Online records show him at the Battle of King’s Mountain but...
Nice! My sister lives in Madison, my folks are out on the Arsenal.
Any good shopping in this area to recommend? I was hoping to find some big weekend flea markets or some such but my mom said she’s never heard of any. Can you recommend anything of that nature?
When I bought this hat I did not anticipate him being so absolutely spotless. This fellow is so pristine I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do with him. I would love love love to wear him all the time but I don’t see much future in staining two near mint 70 year old white hats within the first...
My first proper “western” has arrived. This Stetson 3X was a steal on eBay at 20 bucks and it is just the tiniest bit too small, but wow, what a beauty!
I know, right? It’s a one dropper too. I hope I don’t get lynched for posting Stetson photos on the Brotherhood page, but here it is (20 bucks, plus 13 shipping - here’s hoping it fits!):
“Wear it out” = excellent advice, Bowen. Indeed it is on my head as I type!
Yes, I hope to get a vintage Borso one day. Right now the cost is prohibitive but I’m keeping my eyes open. I did just pick up a very nice looking 50s Stetson 3X wide-brimmed for 20 USD. That’s about my speed at the...
Gifting felt hats is a wonderful practice!
The overheating I was experiencing was caused by something else, btw - it wasn’t hat’s fault as it turned out!
Enjoy the world of Akubra, Eclec, I learned a lot from them!
So I arrived back to my folks’ home in Alabama yesterday and the modern Borsalino I’d purchased was waiting for me. Not at all what I expected and to be honest I was rather disappointed, even if my expectations weren’t high to start with. It certainly isn’t worth much more to me than the 45 USD...
I like the FED IV a lot and it definitely has more crown to work with than the Banjo Paterson and I just like taller crowns. I also really like the dimensional brim on the FED IV. However, for actual sun protection the Banjo was better just because it’s bigger all the way around.
You wouldn’t...
I just saw Kenneth Branagh’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” which was a competent if flawed film but was absolutley beautifully shot, imo. One reason for this was the costuming - there a LOT of nice hats especially in the first half hour or so.
Here’s an interesting piece from Vanity Fair...
Yay for the head shot! Wow, what a crown - it makes the 3X look like a short sidekick!
Nice to know I joined good company when I acquired the last drop. Be well.
