You know, I love Himel more than the next guy, but is it just me or is the stitching around the shawl not up to the usual standards? It seems kind of wonky, and I think I'd be a little unhappy if I paid himel prices but saw stitching like that in such an obvious place.
Hey PN,
Flat Head is still making leather cafe racer style jackets but I would bet that it's not the one you're thinking of. This is their most recent one: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/2nd/item/fh-srj-06a-bk/
And I have the iteration made before that one. And the one that self edge is...
Outstanding jacket mysteryo, you really pull it off beautifully!
It's a shame that previous transgressions had to be brought up, out of nowhere, and I'm sorry for continuing the discussion but...
Let's remember: Dave has had to read COUNTLESS posts criticizing his prices, product, and the way...
This has been a great thread.
I think that panhead's post did come off as condescending, but I actually do agree with the sentiment. I am also surprised by the fact that the appreciation of quality, style, etc. that we all have for leather jackets seems to end there for most here. Shirts...
Dave thanks so much for the post, I love reading that. More paragraphs would be nice but that's some great insight and to me makes more sense than "no guys, thicker thread = better".
Also, the fact that these 1940's jackets have insanely tight stitch counts and are still around tell me that the...
Hey Trevor, I actually audibly let out some "wow, that looks really good" 's multiple times looking at those pics. I was expecting something sloppy because like others have said the highwayman seems like a tricky fit because it's pretty boxy.
Does it feel big at all anywhere? If not, I think...
That's great, I figured it had to be because of how specific their descriptions were, tailored to the comments here. I'm not quite sure I buy it, but I love the explanations behind these sorts of decisions and I'm happy that Aero has written more.
This is absolutely amazing, it has to be due to all the flack aero has been getting on this forum... lol.
1. Has there ever been an example of high stitch count leather tearing?
2. Is their method of sewing zippers why Aero has wavy zippers and many japanese makers are laser-straight?
3. Is...
Monitor, yours is a fun question so I'll answer it even though you didn't ask me. Dude and I have very similar opinions on things so it may help you gain insight into his thoughts too.
At least consciously, I don't really give a shit if something is vintage or not. It just happens to be that...
I'm just interested in having a conversation involving our jacket preferences. If its not ok because some feel bad when I'm speaking generally about brands they may own, I should probably stop posting. Didn't realize y'all were that sensitive ;)
Of course, it would be inexcusable to just barge...
Sorry, should've been more clear. Speaking poorly about those making the comparisons:
"After this statement you paint yourself as nothing more than a label whore with precisely the attitude I was describing in the first two sentences of my post. I need not look beyond that."
He's just saying that if you disagree with enough people to be bothered by it, you don't *have* to post here.
But I think it's always best to post somewhere, especially if you have a different opinion. It livens the place up and prevents it from being an echo chamber. Just gotta be respectful!
Ton, why did you change the subject from the comparisons of the jackets to speaking poorly about those making them? A bit of a copout, why not respond to the points we raised?
And this quote "a pissing contest between two totally different jackets and makers full of arbitrary characteristics of...
I definitely see what you mean, Himel (or Flat Head) may be the best for my purposes but Aero for anothers. I think all I'm saying is that, in my opinion, if we are looking at attention to detail, the Himel is objectively better. If we are looking at pure durability, I wouldn't argue that the...
The cuff on that aero is ugly to me and the himel is beautiful. And that difference is seen throughout the jacket, I mean how the stitching looks is pretty important. It just looks bulky... I like leather jackets for purely aesthetic purposes, not because I'm looking for something durable or...
I wouldn't argue as much as I have about comparing different high quality leathers. I personally think shinki is the nicest, just from owning it and from seeing others, but when you get to nice leathers it's much more subjective and different leathers are better for different people. For casual...
I don't know, i think it's a little disingenuous to be calling him just an ebay seller 5 years ago. The guy has been in the vintage business since like the 90's, allegedly owns thousands of jackets, and all these crazy rare vintage jackets that you see in japanese magazines were bought from him...
I'll buy the argument when I see Himel's start having problems. Since it looks like the thread Himel uses is thinner (and it's also all cotton, maybe that isn't as hard on leather as polycotton or poly?) maybe that wouldn't cause any problems you might theorize it would.
What is definitely true...
I love this thread, sorry for replying so late, haven't looked around here in a while.
I think it's kinda crazy anyone wouldn't like that picture, it's such a great example of why Himels cost a lot more than other makers (something he is criticized for A LOT). If i was Dave I'd get sick of...
