Yes, I know vintage Borsalino's are spectacular, and no, I have nothing against vintage hats--I have several. I like new hats too, however, and need this hat for an upcoming event. Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it.
Hello Hat Friends:
I have an absolutely soft, lovely Borsalino I purchased in Rome a few years back. I suppose it's open crown, it's like butter. I'm afraid I don't know the model, doesn't say on the inside.
Delmonico's is having a good sale, and I have my eye on a light gray Como (wish I...
Seeing all of your vintage hats is so wonderful. It makes me self conscious about posting my in comparison run of the mill, new, store bought hats! Maybe I should start a thread called, "WHAT HAT ARE YOU WEARING THAT"S BRAND NEW" , haha.
I see. It looks as thought the modern Stetson OR are much closer to the San Antonio, if not the same in measurement. Here's a vintage example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-1950s-RESISTOL-SAN-ANTONIO-SELF-CONFORMING-WESTERN-HAT-15-/264396375674
I wish we could still buy the 2_14 Resisitol...
Thanks! It is one of my favorite hat styles, and as student of his presidency, even though I have other ORs there's a certain fun to this. Especially the alternate branding and stamped hat band.
There's an ebay listing now with a hat supposedly from the stash LBJ would give to guests. It's an...
Hey ET, do you find the Akubra's run true to size? For my climate in Portland it sounds like the perfect hat. I am between sizes so usually tape a 7_18 Stratoliner or similar hat and it fits great. What's your experience on sizing with these? Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying, but we are actually on the same page. I prefer hats without the factory creasing, although of course I've bought them that way. I like shaping the hat myself too. Nice to know the Gannons can arrive open and we can have that fun.
Being here in PDX, I am excite to finally have discovered Michaels' business. The hat on the left that looks to be white--is it indeed, white, and is the crown open?
Thanks you! What a tree!
Well, I know a few years back a fellow had trouble with a Strat being too stiff. I just bought the open crown from Delmonico's. It arrived in great shape, it steams nicely and is good and soft. I'm not much experienced in shaping yet, but I love it enough to order a few other colors. Soft and...
God, I love these open crowned Stratoliners! Not exactly an exotic hat, but having fun steaming in and playing with creases. This one from Delmonico's, the first of an orgy of new hats I've ordered this last month.
