I started a new job this week and a couple of the younger guys have taken a liking to my hat-wearing. I've never seen either of these two without ball caps on their heads, so maybe they're considering branching-out.
The second one to comment had some pointed questions, and clearly has an...
I've been searching for a hat to fit certain requirements for the better part of a year now. I'm a fairly patient guy, so I'm sticking to my list of needs: Rainstorm Proof (not negotiable), > 2.5" bound brim, open crown, black or very dark gray.
I had my eye on an Akubra Bushman in black from...
I'm in this boat too. I love the look of Homburgs, but the hat is a little too formal in appearance, and looks out of place with the balance of my wardrobe. Probably why I stick to thin-ribbon hats these days.
The brim on that hat has no binding, and it looks a little narrow to me to be a Campdraft - maybe it was trimmed? The crown also appears a bit diminutive for a CD, but it might just be the bash that's throwing me off. The only marking on the sweat I see is the brand, which I find curious. The...
My two moonstone Bushman hats are, without a doubt, the most snuggly-fitting hats in my small collection (all of which are the same size and brand).
And Wow! Your Bushman looks gorgeous! That's a classy bash you've got going there.
I lost my job due to the plague in mid-April. I'm currently in the middle of interviews for a new position that seems better than the one I lost, so I won't complain. And I'm one of those guys whose lifestyle didn't change much. I've always kept a good stock of supplies (largely out of a...
This may not be much help, but there are a couple of things I would consider with an exact size measurement.
1) Akubras fit some people a little loose initially, and then the leather sweat-band shrinks a bit to conform to the head over time. This is not every person's experience, but it has...
The Rough Rider could be a good start. You might want to look around for a used one.
I have never cut a brim myself, but that's a modification folks make. I just Googled "Fedora Lounge - trimming a brim" and got a few thread links to check out.
A black Bushman is not the black Campdraft that so many of us have been pining for, but I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on it. I once considered a Premier Strat in black, but I doubt that it would endure my region's standard precipitation. And that extra nudge of brim in the Bushman...
I hear that loud and clear. If my search for a thunderstorm-proof black hat that I actually liked (my Fed IV isn't working out) hadn't been so frustrating, I wouldn't have even considered the price increase.
This may be old information at The Lounge, but it was new to me.
I followed a compelling Google image to a site/shop in Tennessee called hatWRKS. Lo and behold: a black Bushman. A color exclusive to this shop. They also offer the Bushman in Sand, another exclusive.
They are pricey this...
I've found this helps hold the trailing lead from flopping towards the front of the hat when hanging on a hook. We all know how that ribbon will hold a "memory" for that annoying position until you smooth it out with water.
I agree! I have tried one on several times at the DM store. I thought the Hampton looked surprisingly good on me in the mirror, and it was difficult to resist!
Looks even better on you.
I bought this Bushman in Nullarbor Tan at the David Morgan Bothell store in July 2019. It was the first open crown hat I purchased with the intent of bashing myself, so I went in with the mindset of this being my Guinea Pig Hat. Zero attachment: this one is bound to suffer. Lacking...
Thanks for the reality check, Blare. I think both of your comments apply to a degree. If asked, my friend would claim the "homage" as his reason, and fire-off a steely smile in my direction. But it probably never occurred to him to change it.
And that's perfectly OK with me.
