That's right his name is Paul. Is he a FL member? I don't remember a user with alike id.
The design with snaps seems a bit strange. I saw in other thread some OG pieces having also snaps. Was this part of the spec?
Although I have a Lost Worlds AN-j 4, I just got a used one from Eastman(ebay item 201471394653). Price was quite right so I could not pass it up. Also I am puzzled by the Eastman sheepskin grain.
I'll post impressions on how it stands compared to the LW one.
I'm also curious how ELC sheepskin...
True, this forum offers a great deal of information. It's v helpful to make an informed decision when purchase smth like clothes/shoes related.
Thanks for the tips will check those vintage ones. Even for ones, you can find online(eBay,...) for 20-30 gbp 100% wool scarves by Scottish brands.
The USN pea coats 40s-60s are quite plentiful in sz 38 and in quite good shape. I guess it must have been a common size at that time. Beyond size 38, these pea coats get scarcer.
There is also the long overcoat option, from same period they are plenty in size 38, an example that looks to be in...
Fantastic suit, congratulations. If I may ask, where did you find it? It is so rare, I'd feel guilty wearing it.
The bottom part resembles to my early 30s A-1 pants (Switlik Parachute) - see a sample here(http://stumptown-traders.blogspot.lu/2012/02/ww2-1-horsehide-flight-pants-by-switlik.html)...
@Stand By - thanks for the tips, great deal of information on these jackets. I'll go for an Aviation Leathercraft if price will be right. I wore today the LW AN-J 4 jacket in about 37 deg F and it fit/looked great. Only downside was holding it while getting somewhere indoors, is bit heavy and...
Passing by Saarbrucken today I took a peek at scarves sold in Peek&Clopenburg(ground floor - men's accessories dep). There was quite a variety of tartan looking ones, one of the brands was even named smth like Mac... Prices ranging from 20 to 40 euros. Touched them and they looked like wool...
At least for men's leather items there si about 25% off. Not a big deal ( from 900 to 700) given that there are no interesting models. There are lots of better leather jackets to buy at 700.
For ladies the discount % is higher.
@Deacon211, Stand By - I've been aware a high end jacket is an investment over a longer period. All I questioned was modern sheepskin ability to take a serious abuse (getting wet/dried repeatedly, abrasion). I guess that most of these jackets are more/less wardrobe queens. Therefore I'm not sure...
"Great", you pay through the nose for a jacket(1000 usd +) to find out 10-20(dep on usage extent) years later that it suddenly starts cracking, displaying weaknesses. I do not afford to buy such jacket every few years so that I can subject it to wear similar to war time ones(getting it wet...
As time passes all manufacturers (high-end ones included) will produce goods with less good/strong materials. This is mostly due to suppliers, market context. Demand, prices go up, top notch materials become scarce.
This is why I stock on smth good while having the chance. Who knows if future...
Some actual pictures of the pants I own. They look like being soiled on the outside. Inside they are clean.
The leather is surprisingly supple and bouncy when bent. Looks really strong. I'm afraid not to ruin it structurally by cleaning.
I purchased off eBay a pair of sheepskin A-6 arctic pants- same make(Aero leather clo.), contract as ones here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/187271-aac-arctic-wear-b7-jacket-and-a6-pants/#entry1446218. Leather is nicely pliable, no rips, holes.
Problem 1 - is that they...
@Trenchfriend - thanks for info and pics; it really looks great and price is reasonable enough.
@Lean'n'mean - thanks, this looks good too, price is really good compared to retail.
Maybe I'll end getting both, difficult to choose.
Thanks for the help
I'll go maybe this weekend to Koln or Saarbrucken and check out these stores. I live close to Germany's West frontier.
I saw in one of Karstadt/Kaufhoff (at ground floor) some tartan looking scarfs but they looked flimsy, unimpressive. In tone with other consumer stuff being...
- artificial distressing usually looks strange/fake/overdone
- financial loss - think thoroughly before doing it on an expensive/high end jacket; I see on eBay/classifieds section jackets that look over distressed/ have usage patterns that do not look quite right. They seem to sell difficultly...
I'm looking for a wool tartan scarf, rough texture, blanket like density.
I've been looking through the sites recommended above, but I was not able to find such thing.
Anybody knows any brand/store I should look for? (I'd prefer smth made in Scotland.)
Thank you
