Thank you, I'm glad that you liked it.

    What are you listening to?

For those of you who listen to modern music, I would like to offer "Summer Fiction." This is like the soundtrack to the summer you never had, filled with references to The Beach Boys, Glee Clubs, and 60s pop. I cannot say enough good things about his two albums. https://vimeo.com/122584872...

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

Nice. They do bird counts at the top of a mountain near here of passing raptors.

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

We have a Ruby-throated Hummingbird making the rounds everyday and I get so much enjoyment out of him. I cannot wait for migration. We don't get too many song birds. A new addition are the Cedar Waxwings. Those are very pretty. I also saw the Red-bellied Woodpecker again. He is also one of my...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

My wife and I just re-watched "Band Of Outsiders" and "Breathless." Two great films, but this time around I preferred "Band..." We watched both over several Pimm's.

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

Nice, bravo. We border conservation land and should see some migrants. I will be taking walks through the woods and the local wildlife refuges. Mt. Wachusset is along the raptor migration path and there is a count each year. I am planning on being there. It's nice to have a motivation to stroll.

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

Nice, well done. I'm not a member of any organization either. Not that I am opposed. For me, it is a relaxing laid-back past time.

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

I am up to 28 species viewed on or from my property. I thought that was impressive, except that someone did a Big Year in Acton and managed 130 species, and so I have a way to go! Still, saw some interesting ones: Sharp-shinned Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Rose Breasted Grosbeak, Ruby Throated...

Oh, How Abercrombie has Changed Since Hemingway Shopped There...

I'm glad that you all enjoyed this. The full article is interesting as well on many other levels. That world was disappearing just as I was coming into it. I feel privileged to have sat in the broad front seat of a car as cavernous as a couch and to roll around the vast space in a Country...

Oh, How Abercrombie has Changed Since Hemingway Shopped There...

The following excerpts are from Lillian Ross' famous take-down on Ernest Hemingway in The New Yorker, MAY 13, 1950 Issue, "How Do You Like It Now, Gentlemen?" http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1950/05/13/how-do-you-like-it-now-gentlemen I hope that you find this as fascinating as I do. The...

    favorite director of all time?

I think Woody Allen is brilliant. I agree with others that he has his weak films, but "Stardust Memories." ( which is a lot of fun to watch right after "8-1/2") and "Manhattan." Excellent films. So, favorite director, the one that has delighted me most, would have to be Woody Allen because of...

15 Old House Features that we were wrong to abandon...

All good points and absolutely true. Thinking of this thread, I drove through Cambridge today and saw a home on maybe a 2,500 sq ft lot and with a tiny little house; no garage, no yard; just a fenced-in little house; probably built circa 1910 (guess). I will say this though, not at all...

15 Old House Features that we were wrong to abandon...

When I started this thread I was looking at homes and watching quite a bit of HGTV. Now I own a home and it is interesting because it was built circa 1940 and completely remodeled late last year. So I still have the original radiators, built-ins, crystal door knobs, skeleton key locks, etc, but...

15 Old House Features that we were wrong to abandon...

I just bought a house that has built-ins. They are in the second bedroom and they're like having an armoire in the wall. Brilliant. Why would that go away? And the crystal doorknobs.

    The $10,000 leather Gladstone bag

This is not your usual luxury item. There is no conspicuous consumption here and no bragging rights. One would have to tell people that it cost as much as it does. That is not the same as buying something like say a Hermes Kelly Bag, where people would recognize it as the thing that it is (for...

    Papa's cap

I have that hat as part of my Hemingway collection, but I've never worn it out. I've always wanted to wear it big game fishing.

BOTH SIDES OF THE TWEED! - Show us your tweed suits, sport coats and pants

I picked this suit up at Cordings in Piccadilly. I am quite impressed with it. It is obviously not vintage, but it is well-made, has very nice details, and the tweed is quite heavy. It has a Herringbone brown pattern with a burgundy, orange, and butter stripe running through it. It is very nice...

Guilty Secrets . . . (and help me identify this hat)

I don't know the hat, but that film was the first time I ever noticed Liam Neeson.
