Those hats remind me of the hats you see on Red Dead Redemption 2. Anyone play that game? I'm not a gamer but I do play some games once in a blue moon and I finally got rdr2 just because I've heard so much about it. Never played the first one.
The first thing I did when I got to town was browse...
The Heritage seems to surface wrinkle when dry creasing much more than imperial grade. It's not an issue when using steam. Other than that, the felt is quite a bit nicer, more dense and softer feel. The sweatband is of much nicer quality so it feels better on the head. I wish they offered the...
Well I'm in, I ordered a 220 body in natural. I need to get and build some tools so itll be a while before I start. This will make a fun winter project.
I wish I would've gotten a bushman sooner, the crown height kept me away from one for years. It ended up being fine. Hope it works out!
I love mine.
My only complaint is the sweatband is sewn in flat against the inside of the crown so there isnt the proper bell shape which keeps the stitches off...
Wore my late 60's? Stetson today, I got a pic while we were on a bike ride around an empty parking lot trying to teach a 4 year old how to ride a bike. I don't usually wear a hat while riding but we weren't actually riding, riding. Just messing around having fun.
Yeah I'm already a seasoned hat freak. I was a member here years ago and left when they redid the site because it wouldn't work on my old phone so I had to make a new account. I was previously Brian Niebuhr but I dont think there is anyone here who would remember me. It's nice to be back. I too...
Finished the day with my feathered Stagecoach for a hike and working around the yard. I also built a hat rack out of a nicley weathered piece of wood I found in my grandma's garage when we cleaned it out last spring. I have probably 20 more boards just like it. Her old record player is now used...
Years ago I took an angle grinder to a hat stretcher to accommodate the egg part of my egg oval, similar idea but your band block is a much better choice since the stretcher has no side support and a band block looks nice too. I always thought about trying to make one but didn't quite no how. I...
There definitely seems to be a market for felt body suppliers. It just aggravates me because I believe we are at a high point in hat sales, they are trendy right now, and yet every hat maker that pops up pretty much does the same thing with the same felts. They always brag about their old...
Yes, my only complaint as well and it varies from different dealers. I've found that Everything Australian is fairly consistently large, Hats Direct is also but not as consistent and David Morgan tends to run on the small size. That's just my experience.
Excuse the basement shot, I love the color of this Stagecoach. The felt is nice and dense but it's stiff as a board. My signature hatband sort of inspired by one of Clint Eastwood's hats. I've made one for several hats.
Nice looking Down Under.
I've found that if I buy em big enough, then steam the long oval shape into them, then wear them loose until they shrink up, you dont have to fight that long oval fight. I I the struggle well, I'm an long egg oval. Probably extra long.
I had my girlfriend look at the pictures and explain to me what colors they are.
I'd like to try making a 6" crown with at least 3 1/2" brim. Hopefully get a little more out of the brim. Size 61. Think that'd be doable?
I dont have all the tools needed yet but I'd like to start accumulating...
I'd like to buy one or two of these to play around with or maybe send to someone to finish.
I've got some color blindness so it's difficult to assess the colors. Can someone explain the Sunahine color and Natural? That would be awesome.
So heat kills felt but fire makes it better?
Maybe you could explain a little more. What I'm guessing you mean is prolonged heat is bad whereas a quick burn changes the felt for the better? I'm just trying to better grasp what you are saying. Typically when I've seen hats lit on fire, it's...
I would like to find some thinner sweatbands. Most leather sweatbands you run across are around the same thickness which is fine but I've had some goat leather in the past that was very thin and fairly slick and almost glossy. I love them for certain applications. Another that may not be goat...
