I just measured my head, I haven't actually done that in years. I swear your head keeps growing in adulthood. I used to be able to wear a 59 comfortably, now a 60 is borderline and 61's seem to fit the best but they have to break in a little. My head measures at right about 60cm. It used to...
Thank you. I asked if he could do a long oval and he said "yes I can do debts". Maybe he uses speech to text and the word "that" sounded like "debts"??
I think I might ask for a 61.5 cm block, that way it will make approximately a 60.5 hat which will be a little closer to my head size. I just...
Fresh from surviving about 6 years on our zombie/scarecrow. His name is Jedediah and he sits out in the front yard this time of year and after Halloween he goes out back by the garden to keep an eye on things. He got a new face and shirt this year but still wearing the same hat, which I believe...
I like the way they look, they make the hat look more complete and luxurious. I just always end up removing them on my work type hats or my every day hats. Taking them out reduces the weight a little, especially those with the thick plastic cover. Also, it bugs me when I can feel the liner...
I'm a size 60 but I want to make it a size 61, I'm always happier with 61 hats in the long run. 60's tend to get too tight after a couple of years and I prefer not to always be in a fight to keep them stretched. The overall crown proportions look better with size 61 as well.
I dont mind waiting a while to get it. What style block did you get? His G0032, I believe, has perfectly straight sides. No taper at all but it doesn't appear very tall. His block that ends in 52 which I assume is his #52 block, appears to have some taper front and back. More so than others...
I had to talk to 3 different people at hatter supply house to get an answer and I'm still not convinced it is correct. They gave me the length and width measurements and not the circumference.
What's a good alternative block maker?
Another question:
I never considered block size vs finished hat size. I always assumed if you block a hat in size 61, you'll get a size 61 hat. I was reading on here that you typically need to use a size up block to accommodate the sweatband. I spoke with the folks at hatters supply house and...
I have hats that I rarely wear because they seem too nice. I'd hate to wear a hat from the 50s to the point of being tattered and sweat stained. Then again, I'd like to enjoy the quality and use it as it was intended.
I have some 7x , 10x Stetsons from the 60s/70s that are really nice but I...
Got this one a few years ago. I think one of the kids caused a mark on the crown pinch. I havent tried to sand it out yet. Looks like it might be blood. Probably from a bloody nose. I since started hanging it in my music room. I replaced the sweatband when I got it. The original is around here...
Holy cow that's a huge hen!
So far my main hen spots havent produced yet this year. I just used up the last frozen hens from last year so I gotta find some soon. Always batteling daylight this time of year. There ain't much after work. Found a nice bunch of elm caps tonight but that's about it.
My rough plan is to order my block with the three holes, drill out the holes on a sheet of plywood, insert short dowels into holes so the block can lock into place if I need to attack the brim from the top, or if I need to secure the hat to cut the brim.
Use another sheet of plywood as a normal...
I know I've shown this hat a few times already but hey, it's one of my favorites. I made the mistake of laying down on the couch after dinner. Started to doze off but I stopped myself, shot up, threw on my woods gear and headed out to check one of my mushroom spots. A hike through the woods is...
The pics helped. That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up. I was scratching my head.
What if there was only one set of legs and you could just switch out the different boards. Could even just use for coffee cans.
My concern with plywood is the textured surface. Cutting the hole will also...
I love how Akubras just shed water like nothing. I worked out in the yard building firewood racks and filling them until it was too dark to work. Steady rain the whole evening. Other hats would have saturated and leaked down my scalp but my Bushman just seems to repel water. It doesn't even look...
