Hi all. Finally getting around to selling my 1930's Half Belt. Custom order purchased direct from Aero. Excellent condition with no rips, tears, zipper issues, pets, or smoking. Hardly wear it anymore and setting my sights on something else. For reference, I'm about 6ft 190lbs.
Measurements...
Just wanted to set the record straight as there was some confusion in my communication with Aero about this. Although I initially thought that they were willing to add underarm gussets to a civilian jacket, in the end they were not. The underarm gussets are only offered on their military jackets.
Feel rather silly asking this but here goes. Goat is generally considered lighter than horse however Aero's midweight horse is listed as 2.5oz while the goat is 2.75oz. I'm assuming, then, their goat must feel heavier than their midweight horse right? Or is there something else going on here...
So besides the factors of aging differently, the grain itself, and suppleness/softness, are there any other differences between Aero’s goat and and their mid weight horsehide which are of similar thicknesses/weights? It seems that some think that goat is better in warmer temps but does this hold...
Thanks for the pics. Last question haha. Is there anything else besides the sizing issue that you didn't like about the Sheene pattern that made the Ridley or PHWM more comfortable? Thanks!
Yea I would agree that the gussets alone can't make up for an uncomfortable jacket over all. I currently have an Aero 1930's half-belt in heavy horse which, while a good fit, I find too constricting. That's why I've been checking out the opposite end of the spectrum; lighter leathers combined...
I suppose I'm simply after a comfortable jacket that I can move around in. I've come to realize that if the jacket isn't comfortable then I'll end up never wearing it. And, yep, Aero does offer the underarm gussets in their civilian line.
Yea I agree. I don’t really like the idea of having elastic in the jacket. Might just go with underarm gussets after all. Combined with the easy wearing goat, I’m thinking it will still be fine...
I remember reading on here somewhere that some bi-swing backs have elastic in them. Do Aero's shoulder gussets have any elastic or just extra leather folds?
Exactly. I’m hoping that the underarm and shoulder gussets will work in harmony with each other.
I wouldn’t count myself in the “clean backs”club though I’d be reluctant to put a full action back on the Sheen since it’d be such a deviation from the style. I’m hoping the shoulder/underarm gusset...
I know that gussets have already been discussed at length here on the Lounge but most guys here seem to favor the heavier, stiffer horse or cow hides. I’m wondering about gussets specifically in relation to the lighter, suppler goat leather. I’m currently considering a custom Aero Sheen in goat...
Interested to see if anyone has an Aero Sheene or Highwayman in seal goat that they're looking to sell. Shoulder gussets preferred. Approximate measurements are below. Considering pulling the trigger on a custom but wanted to see what was out there first. Thanks!
