I got this Spanish American War era (reproduction) hat back in the 1970s. It served me well for many years and a lot of hard miles on the trails through the mountains. I "retired" this hat well over 25 years ago, but decided to get it back in service. I wore it on a nice long hike today...
It "fits" your photo well. I have a double barrel L.C. Smith that dates to the late 1920s to early 1930s and an old single barrel Spencer from about the same time.
Older model shotguns are hard to beat.
My grandfather, Will Brown (1877-1932). My granddad volunteered during the Philippine Insurrection in 1899 and saw active duty in the Philippines. This photo of him was taken in 1902 in Manila, PI. He's holding his campaign hat in the photo.

I tried doing a little experimenting with B&W photography today. Digital cameras are great, but no matter how hard I try i can't capture the "look" of real film photography. Oh well, it was fun to try and to get out and do some hiking.
