James Fox Dorisco in a Savinelli Lancelot. In Ireland we don’t get a lot of choices in pipe tobacco, we only have two shops selling it, and we can’t import tobacco from the EU due to the price difference. I smoke Mick McQuaid otherwise, it’s a straight old-fashioned Virginia, strong to me but...
Christ was the ultimate hero archetype, so I can understand that. I agree with your interpretation of the Inquisitor as Satan, the freedom which the Inquisitor says the people would give throw back in Christ’s face reminds me of Notes from the Underground, where Dostoyevsky says that if man was...
It’s Raskolnikov’s realization at the end of Crime and Punishment, that suffering eventually brings redemption. On the other hand we have Ivan’s argument, but then Ivan went mad. Alyosha was really the hero of that novel.
Have you read the Pevear and Volokhonsky translations of Dostoyevsky? They're excellent, I read their Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov last year. They really captured the hallucinogenic quality in Crime and Punishment, when Raskolnikov is wandering around, half off his head with...
I've never been a fan of post modernism and deconstructionism and the like, it's too sterile and lifeless. I do like the novels of Thomas Pynchon however, they have a bit of heart. He's very much a post modernist, in his novel 'V' the characters are on a train, when it turns out a fellow...
Aero: 7
Vanson:4
... and eight single jackets by Eastman, Cal, RMC etc. I'd have more Vansons but they're not as common in Europe on the 2nd hand market.
Not as many as I thought, the therapy is paying for itself!
I’ve read that twice now, it’s great, like a horror movie but it was real.
“Passing through Tokenhouse Yard, in Lothbury, of a sudden a casement violently opened just over my head, and a woman gave three frightful screeches, and then cried, ‘Oh! death, death, death!’ in a most inimitable tone...
My CXL FQHH Highwayman was the same, wearing it in the rain was the fastest way to soften it. It still took a few months, mainly because I kept missing the rain. Now it’s completely soft. Another FQHH I have, a bootlegger, was soft out of the box so it very much depends on the batch.
I have an Eastman G-1, I can’t imagine the Aero could be as good, even though I’ve only had the Eastman, that’s how good it is, and I’m a fan of Aero and have lots of their jackets. I do like the idea of getting a thicker goatskin then the Eastman in an Aero though, but then it wouldn’t be as...
I think they look better when a bit longer, just my opinion. This is what stops me from getting an Eastman Irvin (well, the price doesn't help ), although they made them an inch longer a few years back as far as I know.
I'd go with 40 and no less than 25 for the back as well, I have an Aero ANJ-4 it's a 44 and I have a 42 inch chest, it fits well with room to layer but it's not too loose.
