Nice! I was wondering how the regular HH is, can't wait to hear your impressions on it.
To give Shawn some leeway, apparently dude has been a busy bee, he's moving into some new building, expanding his business, he's really deep into the war repro stuff now too. He's really starting to find his...
FWIW goat is one of the more durable skins, but tend to be thinner. How that translates to real world slide time I'm not sure, but I still view goat as still better than almost all the textile jackets you can buy. But I will still say getting a thicker hide like steer is better because you can...
I also ordered one of the CHL jackets but in brown, and yeah, you don't want it. It's unnecessarily thick and stiff, like belt leather. It does look great and all that, but as a garment it's pointless. I think Ton did a nice write up of the process he put his through to soften it up, but why. I...
Yeah I hear you on that, but to my eye at least it looks black in a vacuum, and my decadent lifestyle still has not shown any brown on my jacket like @Hh121 example earlier. Guess we're not working our jackets hard enough to take advantage of the quicker fading properties.
But side by side with...
So I guess that's consensus then, it's overdye.
Yeah I'd call that more of a seal brown, but correct my noobness if I'm wrong but from all the cxl I've seen, I've seen alot that some batches do sometimes appear more warm or brown while some are inky jet black, and generally they look more seal...
Agreed, I don't really like these semantical discussions, it's like being on a car forum and defining what a sports car is, but @Hh121 raised that point that JL is misleading people which I'm trying to understand how, because it doesn't appear to be the case.
Then again, Hh121 goes out of his...
I get that it looks more seal than black, but is this not an overdye since there is a top color coat that's different than the lighter leather? The zipper pulls shows that, so the misnomer is black and not overdye?
Beautiful jacket. Is overdye, then, a jacket with an applied top coat of color where the color below is still visible? I'm under the impression that overdye just meant there's a top color cost over a different core color vs bring dyed all the way through.
Yeah it's definitely more chilly in the city, and that's really where I wear these sorta jackets anyway. 100% on the riding jackets, for the cost of a mid level Dainese you could get a custom armored JL.
Because for me and my usage in the bay area, having a cardboard jacket makes no sense since I neither use it for riding or have a job that requires a hard hat, and if I did I sure as hell wouldn't use borderline belt leather for that. It's generally 60-70 degrees for most of the year.
But if I...
Yeah his usual exemplary communication has been understandably stalled.
Also, reading through the later posts, guess we won't be getting a home brewed Shinki/Badalassi type leather, or that sending such leather would net a significant savings vs ordering from the makers who stock the leather.
What's misleading? It's a brown leather with a black coat painted/dyed/application of a color layer. The article you shared doesn't call it an over dye, but rather a paint over.
This has become to be known as teacore. It's essentially accepted that overdye and teacore essentially means a...
I just remembered someone sending him some for a jacket and perhaps for Shawn to make his own like what ended up happening with chl. Problem with that was that instead of getting a normal 3oz cxl he got a ridiculous 5-6oz and patterned his chl after that.
People like to find things to obsess about. Don't get me wrong though, I get wanting something "authentic" but then proclaiming that it's somehow better beyond satisfying some sort of geeky obsession is beyond me.
Just feel like slot of makers like to sell window dressing with unskived edges...
