Those look nice - I would prefer a taller, cuban heel, but the leather looks thick and high quality, and I like the vintage style Biltrite Heels. Not nuch to dislike there at all. Price is a bit high, but at least you're getting horsehide for your money. American Biltrite currently makes those...
Just my opinion, but I have never cared for the high instep strap on those Himel Bro's and the Road Champs. I'm sure the Himel Bro's boots will be nice, but I think the Road CHamp is a better looking boot if you want a 40's look.
I also wonder what the Himel's will cost - thus far, most of...
Just an FYI - Wesco boots are always cheaper through a dealer like Bakers or BigBlackBoots. I have worked with both, and I recommend Baker's. their pricing is very competitive, and their customer service people are saints - they have patiently answered all my questions every time I place an...
I didn't think you came off as an a-hole either. I agree that the decision to buy a high-end leather jacket isn't rational. I think that most of us would agree that there is a point of diminishing returns as far as price is concerned. The problem is that we don't all agree what that price...
Wesco offers a lighter weight (5.5 oz) burgundy leather. I think it is an upcharge though, and they generally recommend adding leather lining with thinner leathers (another upcharge).
Bret - I can't speak for the Toy's McCoy boots, but my RRL Engineer boots (Julian made) continue to be a challenge to put on and take off. It only takes a minute, but it requires a technique. I was thinking about getting rid of them the other day (I want a Black pair of White's Nomads) but...
Those look fantastic Bret - I am really jealous! I don't think they ever made those in a 13 though.... :)
We defintely need lots of good pics when you receive them.
Hey all,
I have decided to let go of one of my pairs of William Lennon boots. These are fantastic boots, but I am just more of a pull-on boot guy. I will probably regret this, but here they are:
These are a slightly modified version of William Lennon's "Derby" Boot. They are a size 13D...
I am thinking about buying a black pair as well. Where are you guys buying yours? I am looking to get the best price possible - hopefully close to $200 (dreaming, I know).
I just missed a brand new pair on eBay for $211with free shipping . I hesitated and the next day they were gone. Best...
I have an old pair of Frye Belted Harness boots. I ended up cutting off the harnesses, and they are on their second sole, but they have been a nice pair of boots for the money. Shop around - I would hope to pay under $200 for these. They are made in the USA (unlike some of the Frye boots...
Sorry for the flurry of posts, but I forgot to mention one important thing - I got the new Distressed Nomads back from White's last week, and they were able to correct the fit. They simple glued in a leather insole - it looks to be about 7 ounce leather. It was just enough to snug the boots...
KY -
1. My Wesco's use a Vibram 705 Half Sole - these are made by Vibram exactly as you see them. Here is an image of them when they were brand new:
2. My original White's Nomad's used a single midsole and a Vibram 100 Lug Sole. Here is a picture of the same sole on a different boot...
Lenny - are you still getting the Double midsoles, Vibram half soles, etc? I ask because with these specs, my new boots feel like the heel has already been lowered about 1/4" (one lift). The Quabaug heels that they use with the half soles are significantly thinner than the Vibram Lug heels...
In my opinion, the price has to do with quality of materials, American manufacturing, and the boots being rebuildable.
I have owned the less expensive American made brands. Chippewa makes a good boot for the price. American made Fryes can be nice, but I am less impressed with the leather on...
His name is Pete, and he works in the custom fit department. The heel cups need to be heated up to soften the stiff material under the leather, THEN pinched. When they cool, they will retain the new shape. Theoretically, you can do this yourself, but I'm not brave enough.
White's and Wesco will both make a soft toe boot. If you order the Wesco "motor patrol" toe, you will get a more vintage looking boot. However, both of these boots have a more 1950's look. Both will be the best bang for your buck though and well within your stated budget.
