Bretron -
I have to tell you, it's hard when you wait several months and spend a lot of money on an item. I have more than once been frustrated when I first receive a pair of boots or a jacket, but after a few days the issue righted itself or I got it figured out. I have had to teach...
Moonshine & Bretron - thanks for your comments - I am really pleased with how my White's are breaking in. The only problem is that they're so nice, I want another pair....
Bretron - I wish I had a good answer for you on the Patrol toes, but I am a full round toe person. I will tell you that...
I also ended up taking some pics top show what they look like before and after a fresh oiling. Keep in mind, the leather lightens back up in about a week, but it's good to know what you're getting into:
The boot on the left is dry, the boot on the right has been freshly oiled. I oil them up...
Ok, I finally took some updated pics of my White's Nomads in standard "Distressed" Brown. They have been breaking in beautifully, and the thick, stiff leather has confirmed beautifully to my feet.
Those are some or the best looking engineer boots out there in my opinion. I would love to pick up a black pair, but my brown pair needed a professional stretching to make them reasonable to get on and off. If I could find a black pair for $450 or so, I might give them a try, but $700-$900...
Yeah, I've been planning on ordering a black pair for a long time, but I keep buying other things (cough, White's Nomads, cough). I have a set of nickel Hukurokuju roller buckles set aside for when I finally get around to making the order.
My specs will be:
11" tall boss with standard...
I have been wearing cowboy and engineer boots for years. In my opinion, engineer boots are some of the most easily accepted boots you can wear as a guy. When your jeans cover the shaft and straps, they essentially look like sturdy dress shoes with thick soles. People are more taken aback that...
Just ignore him, Worf. It's a shame that people have no sense of style in this country anymore. It seems that unless you wear sneakers and whatever type of jeans are currently popular, there will always be a handful of idiots that think it's their job to try and insult you. Don't let 'em get...
Hey all - I haven't posted here in a bit. I need to take some pictures of the progress my boots have taken as they break in. Perhaps some time this week. The "distressed" leather on my White's Nomad boots is breaking in nicely.
I finally broke down and took my Julian made RRL's to a shoe...
I am confused - it appears that a few threads got merged in my absence (including my White's Nomad Engineer thread).
Anyhow, great looking Vibergs, Kenucklehead. I would love a pair of Vibergs, but the price has kept me away. Do you mind sharing what yours cost? I have a pain threshold...
I get this line of thinking, but this is how I see it (admittedly I a less tahn educated oh high end jeans). It seems like there is a bit of a gap as jeans go. You can get $35 Levi's, and you can spend $100 and up on fashion jeans, but really high quality jeans (Iron Heart, etc) seem to be...
Matt - thanks for these pics - I think you may have just solved my black dress boot problem. I am a brown leather guy, but I really need a pair of black shoes to wear with black slacks (I'm just not grown up enough to wear proper dress shoes). :) I have been looking at Iron Rangers, but...
Personally, I think the Boss heel is high enough as it is. My Boss boots have double mids, 705 half soles, and the matching composition heels. The Wesco Boss heel is higher than my White's nomads with identical specs - Wesco uses the thicker Vibram composition heel while White's uses thinner...
That lining definitely adds a lot to the boots - I never even thought to ask about it. I will definitely be adding a lining next time I order a pair from them. Enjoy them!
Great looking boots - I have a pair myself and I love them. I didn't know that they offered a full leather lining - did you ask for this option, and how much did it cost?
Can you post some more pics - I am particularly curious to see the lining and the hobnails.
- Jim
Art - thanks! They are breaking in beautifully - I will need to take some new pictures. I am looking forward to seeing your pics - what did you end up getting? By the way, where did you find that picture of the black Nomads that you posted? My next pair will be pretty much exactly like...
So is the general opinion that the issue was greatest with the brown boots? I have wanted a black pair of RRL's (Julian made) but didn't think it would be worth getting another pair that are hard to get on and off. If the black onese are a better fit.... it's tempting. I can't speak for the...
How much wear did the y get from the previous owner? Do they have double midsoles? I am surprised that boots that were that difficult to get on and off would suffer from heel lift. This is the one redeeming thing about My RRL's - they are hard to get on, but once they are on, there is very...
My original link wasn't working, so try this:
Here is a link to Wesco's page - click on my link below.
Now click on "Men's Custom".
Then click on the box that says "Preview Custom Boot Features".
Finally, click on the box on the right that says "Pull On Boot Options"
Now, if you...
