Dav, I saw your post about your Nomads and I thought they looked familiar - they look amazing! The distressed leather is stiffer and tougher than the other White's leathers and it holds up beautifully in use. Mine are looking great - I'll need to post some new pics soon.
Art, I just wore...
Art, I am really happy with mine - I normally wear a size 13 but these are a size 12 and they fit me perfectly. They are breaking in really gracefully, and I love the thicker, stiffer leather. I also love the color. Like I said, it's like Red Wing asked what my perfect Iron Ranger would be...
Not sure if this is he thread for this, but here goes: Well, I finally broke down and got a pair of Iron Rangers. I love these boots, but never cared for the rubber sole/ heel and the soft leather uppers. Then the other day I was cruising eBay and came across these - they were an exclusive...
Not to diminish your new pair, but these are the boots that derailed my Wesco order. This Chromexcel pair was the inspiration for the pair that ai ordered:
Here is my pair when they were brand new. I need to post an updated picture to show them broken in:
Bunyip - it sounds like you've got a great looking pair of boots on order. Believe it or not, the brass buckles will look really good on those boots. It will give them an authentic vintage look. They look good on my RRL Julian engineer boots. I will eventually have a black pair of Wescos -...
I have a sample swatch. I will have to take photo. It's a dry natural colored leather. Personally, I think it will stain easily. I was quite impressed with the "domain brown" and "domain burgundy" colors.
I may give them a call today, but I checked the measurements, and must off their jeans seem to be very slim fitting, particularly where they taper to the knee. I imagine that the fit in that picture is a pretty good representation of how these will fit. I am not too far out of shape, but I...
What I asked for was a resole, not a rebuild. A rebuild is where they replace everything below the upper. When they resole the boots, they have to reshape the heels and welts and re-dye them, so you do get a fresh looking boot.
They told me that resoling the boots with half soles was a $40...
I hope this doesn't come off as any kind of negative attack, but I thought it was worth mentioning:
I called Wesco the other day to discuss some options for an order. The guy I spoke to was fantastic, and great to work with - I highly recommend calling up and discussion your ideas with him...
Enough,
Those Nicks Engineers look fantastic. I had a pair of their lace up boots a while back, but sold them because of sizing issues (I need to go a full size down in Nicks apparently). They also seemed just a bit more rough than my Whites and Wescos. How do they compare to your Wesco...
Bunyip - I don't remember exactly what you ordered - what last and what heel were you expecting? The leather looks good to me. The heel looks kind of low to me - is that what you asked for? Don't get me wrong, it's not hideous, just not what I expected.
Brian - Those look fantastic! I have to admit, I wasn't totally convinced by the cropped teaser pics, but now that I can see the finished product, I am really impressed. Hell, let's be honest, I really want a pair. I am very curious to hear the price range - I will likely not be able to make...
The rubber lug sole and heel cap will be the same thickness. The leather midsole could be thicker, but in my experience they are pretty much the same between White's and Wesco. The White's heel is a little bit larger (longer?) from front to back because White's heels have a larger curve to the...
Ok, those look incredible! I am definitely following this build now.
Can I ask how thick the Chromexcel Horsehide is? I thought you couldn't get it thicker an 5-6 oz, but the leather in your pics looks thicker. Also, will you be able to build these with thicker/stiffer leather?
I am waiting to see these with some anticipation as well. I think they will be beyond my price range, but I am a fan, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks for all the pics!
