I agree about goatskin - when I first found it (it is rare in Australia) I thought why the hell aren't all jackets made of this? Tough, light, abrasion resistant and I have found it full of character, despite some people's view of it being like pebbly plastic.
There are many grades of suede - I would go with a goat suede which is ultra tough. I had toyed with getting an unlined jacket from Shawn. I have had them in the past and I like how they wear.
Just bear in mind that you may find thicker leathers hard to wear and uncomfortable. Over 30 years of leather jacket buying I have not enjoyed wearing thicker hides (3oz and over). Just one element to ponder. Mnay people here love their heavy hides but, there are some others who have a different...
I pefer the slanted pockets by far. I've always thought those little patch pockets look too dainty and largely pointless. I also find this pattern generally features too many buttons - 10 - if they are also on the pocket flaps. I pefer this pattern with a zip.
Handymike is right, it is - in the first instance - all about your measurements, not the jacket. Ton is able to dial in the fit because he has worked out that a 26 inch back, 23 pit to pit and 26.5 sleeves (or whatever it is) works for him.
Once you know your key measurements, it is actually...
Mike, I went with 29 inches as I am six two. I saw on ebay an original size 44 once and it was close to 30 inches at back. Can't wait to see yours, Mike.
I didn't specify the angled sleave cuff. I wondered if it would bother me. I did ask for ton's collar as it has so much flair. So I've gone...
Bugger it. I just ordered a version of this Sears - minus the belt in medium weight premium goat with a dark undertone. Cotton lining - quilted is mostly pointless down here. Always wanted one of these but never liked the belt.
Agree Mr Proper. The above are not blousons they are utility jackets or bike jackets. Always thought that the blouson is the classic non leather jacket enthusiasts leather jacket. When I think of a blouson I can't get this image out of my mind.
It's just a polo shirt. Many versions came without buttons from the 1930's right through to the 1990's. I suspect some places still make them like this but haven't been paying attention. I had some black ones like this. Polo shirts are also called golf shirts, tennis shirts and knitted sports...
I agree, for me too short by 2 inches in the body and maybe an inch and a half in the sleeves. But this kind of thing is personal taste. If you like ultra short (as many here seem to do) you're golden.
Got me a US Border Patrol goatskin bomber for US $80 in near mint condition. What I like about it (along with the price) is it's an actual issued working jacket not just a wardrobe queen repop. It has a G1 style back. A 42 fits me well - 26 inch back; 26 inch sleeves; 19 inch shoulders; 23 inch...
