Nice work Ton- you are quite literally an inspiration. With an eye for fit detail you have helped 5 Star transcend the blocky, made in Pakistan look to being a maker of quality repops. I wonder if they can take these learnings and apply them to their patterning in general or if there will always...
This issue could have numerous potetial explanations. Simmons Bilt used to provide size numbers - I remember their size 42 half-belt was 22.5cm pit to pit. And most 42's I have seen by them are indeed this size. But I do think their sizes like Aero's vary between patterns. This jacket looks to...
Fair enough. If I went with them again I would actually request the thinner hide. But I would ask for a dense hide, not a stretchy spongy one (if possible). The point of goat for me is its G1, wind-breaker lightness and once it is 1.2 to 1.5mm it looses much of its appeal to me.
It would be interesting to have one compared to an Alpha because if you have no experience of nylon jackets like this, even the Alpha feels like a masterpiece of construction and materials - at least mind did when I got it 20 years ago. The new Alpha I have seems pretty solid too.
Most goat I have seen outside of this maker is 2.5oz. What matters more than the thickness, is the quality of the hide which is often a result of the treatment/tanning process. The Five Star goat hide i have (2 jackets) had was around 3oz thick and too spongy and lifeless for my taste. Thickness...
I watched The Queen's Gambit too - really liked it. Wonderful premise and main character. But I stopped after episode 3. I just don't have the stamina for long form TV. As with good food, once I am full I stop eating. Even if there is a lot left over.
This stuff can only be felt not seen. The best looking fit I ever had was a jacket that prevented me from breathing deeply. It did not look too small. But it really was. I wore it uncomfortably for 10 days and it just seemed to get tighter. Off it went.
If you can't wear even a modest thin wool sweater underneath a jacket to my idea it is too tight. I don't think I have ever owned a jacket that can't accommodate one.
Most of the Coopers were cut wide and short, length won't be an issue for you.
The best way to work out sizing is for you to establish what your key measurements are - your pit to pit (chest measured across under the armpits with the jacket lying flat. Your sleeve length and your back length...
All good hide at that price will age beautifully. Capeskin is light hide and less robust but accurate for an A1 which is really a kind of light windbreaker. I personally would not want horse in an A1. Goat perhaps. For me it is Eastman if you want a great one now. Goodwear if you want best...
