Marineabilly--
Thanks for those pics. I think I'm gonna have to get some of those Brando boots someday. They look even better broken in. I love the rich color on them and the fact that they are smooth finished leather. Most of the other brown engineers around only seem to be available in...
Viola--
Frye actually makes their regular engineer boot in women's sizes:
check out www.thefryecompany.com
And no, you would not look heinous. In fact, engineer boots are actually considered "in fashion" right now-- my wife has two "fashionable" (probably not nearly as durable as the...
I agree about the front profile-- When it comes to Frye's, I like the fuller toe on the Rogan, but the leather on the Brando. I was also thinking that the heels looked a bit low on those Red Wings-- the soles look very similar to the ones they put on their Iron Ranger boots.
Frye Boots
Marineabilly,
Are those red-brown Frye's in the front the "Brando" boots? If so, what's your opinion of them, as far as comfort, durability, etc? I've been considering getting a pair. Love that color. I don't actually own a motorcycle, so not having the steel-toe isn't that...
Boots
The Katahdins are my everyday boots. I know a lot of other people here have them as well.
Pros: They are a pretty good boot for the money, especially when they go on sale at Sportsmans Guide. Extremely comfortable, even without an insert-- I'm on my feet a lot all day at work in...
Thanks guys. Those At The Front boots have the natural sole edge I was talking about. You say you use an insole--according to the website, they run a full half-size big. Did you find this to be true, even after you put an insole in them? I'm a 10 1/2, so I would guess I'd need a 10, but I...
Thanks for the photo. Yes, they definitely look darker than the pictures on the website. Also, these look like they have black edged soles, whereas some of the others I've seen seem to have a natural colored sole edge.
Alright, so there have been a lot of threads about WWII service shoes, and a lot of discussions about who makes the best repros and why, but what there have not been are many actual pictures of the boots. So... this is a call to all of you that have purchased these from WWii impressions, At the...

Really loving the vintage blue collar look. Someday I'll have saved up enough for some Whites... and some Canes... and some Cushman....
Isn't crazy how it costs an arm and a leg now just to dress like a minimum-wage factory worker from...
In response to your question Hailey, according to the Library Of Congress, the photo was taken by Russell Lee in 1938. The description says:
"Crowd of people waiting for Cajun band contest to begin, National Rice Festival, Crowley, Louisiana"
The call number is LC-USF33- 011735-M4 . You...
These are probably common knowledge to most of you, but if there are any folks that are just getting into this, here are some great websites to get you started. Be prepared to spend a lifetime mining these, though...

Fantastic photos everybody!
here's a handful from my collection:
I think most of these are from the Library of Congress American Memory website, but I've got tons that I've grabbed off the web over the years, so if any of these are yours, let me know!

We went to a Hangar Dance for historical aircraft preservation this past weekend. This was my "civilian" look. When we walked in, an older gentleman looked at me and said "John Dillinger." I wasn't sure if that was meant as a compliment or an insult, so I just...
Great cuts, everybody!
James Cagney had a pretty wide variety of hairstyles throughout his career. I stumbled across this picture of him today-- it reminded me of a more extreme version of your new cut, Dinerman:
Denim and workwear reference pictures
If you're interested, I just made a flickr set of vintage pictures of common folks, students, blue collar workers, etc. all with a focus on workwear and denim. The pictures are collected from various sources all over the net, so you have probably seen some...
Some old jeans pics
These are from Eisenstaedt's pictures of New Trier High School, circa 1950. A lot of the jeans seem to be of a relatively similar fit to the ones people wear now. Also, you can see examples of cuffed, un-cuffed, rolled, and let-down.
Its true you see a lot of...
