Yes, Vanson has a Model A with armour version, called the AR3. I have a customised one and it works well enough, but in this day and age when we're being spoiled for choice in slimmer, more malleable amor pads (D3O, seesoft etc) the Vanson pads are positively thick and bulky. I'm sure they're...
Today - my recently acquired (courtesy Thurston Bros), hardly worn Aero 30s Half Belt in dark seal Vicenza. Now it's starting to be less cold here in the mountains, I'll be wearing this jacket a lot more. I'm the guy on the right. Gentleman next to me is a photographer from Thailand sporting a...
When I bought my LW Buco Rider from a moto shop in Brooklyn some years ago, I remember them telling me that they were pretty much the only physical store in the US stocking LW jackets (UnionGarageNYC). The rest were - some online orders, and the majority made for the Japan market.
Same place...
Folks, please don't mind me side-tracking the conversation a bit ... Carlos, where do you train BJJ in London? I've trained a little bit when I used to live in New York - Renzo Gracie - but am a forever-white-belt. Now I live halfway round the world so only get to train BJJ when I travel to...
Heck yeah! Another area where I have way more than what I really need! Practically a joke in my MC club - what helmet will I wear today?!
For everyday commute or shorter fair weather rides - usually on my Triumph Scrambler (last of the line air-cooled 865cc version): I wear either open-face...
Fantastic story Superfluous! And yeah, I don't mind Schott at all. Their stock sleeve and body lengths work fairly well for me. I still kick myself for not picking up a CAF1 cafe racer jacket some years ago, then last year I was in their NYC store and learnt Schott was not making this jacket...
Fantastic jacket! Love everything about it - the leather, green tartan, and riding-specific details. I've been contemplating a four-pocket cafe racer too, even though I already have a bunch of CRs. When I do, I'll probably go with the board racer profile, but your other specifics are what I've...
My wife now follows Thurston Bros on Instagram. She saw pics of the above D-pocket J106 Ridley recently and declared she likes it a lot. Guess that's where I'll be headed for my next jacket now ;)
I have a hybrid Vanson with America stripes on chest and sleeve, but without the USA flag on the back. I got it directly from Vanson. It started out as an AR3, their armoured Model A jacket. After customisation (which took a while longer than expected, but hey, all good now!) it's now a Model A...
I have a slightly customised version of this same jacket. It's good stuff - heavy-duty all-American classic-style hardcore armoured leather jacket, can't get better. And yes, once you have the amor pads aligned properly, they do stay in place well. Somebody pick it up, well worth it!
I think Belstaff did a better version of this jacket style in leather. Perhaps a bit too much leather here too, but it looks softer and drapes better ...
