By the time I hit the service in 68, the M16 was in. Looking at it now with more educated eyes, I wish that the military had gone with a larger bore and bullet. Presently I would prefer something like the 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC, with my preference leaning toward the 6.5 and it's longer range...
It looks a lot like the blued 32-20 I got about a week ago. Typical K frame, and mine came with the same grips. The gun also came with a factory letter stating that it shipped in Nov of 1922. One of the grips was so worn I found a set with the S&W medallions.
The Tilley T3 is not a bad choice but I would prefer the LTM3 Airflo Hat, which has a band of mesh all the way around the top for much better ventilation. I have both and they are very soft, so if you were to lean or push back against a chair it would not be uncomfortable or annoying like a...
Nice. I like those old Marlin's and don't see many flat bolt models in the higher power calibers. I have my dads old 336 sporting carbine in 35 Remington circa 1952, and the 39a in 22LR he bought me the same year.
The bug bit me so I got on line and found what looks to be a nice example of a S&W 1905 hand ejector in 32-20. This one has a factory letter and says it was shipped in Nov of 1922. It should be a nice little gun, really an early K frame so should be plenty stout for that little cartridge. I...
Nice, I picked up an EG model some years back at a local gun show. It had a Weaver K 4 scope, nice and clear, with a Lee dot reticule . It's a 300 Savage, and like yours some had cut off the stock and put on a red recoil pad. I have not shot it much, but it's ok. You don't run across those...
I like those single shots, got a bunch or Ruger #1's, my favorite being a nice light little 1a in 7x57 that I found used at a gunshow. Metal was perfect, but wood looked like it had been rode hard and put up wet. Patches of finish were gone, and most was completely clouded. After a lot of...
+1 On that alarm. It's loud enough to be useful, and served me well for all of my active duty AF career, eliminating the need to carry an alarm clock on the occasions I was TDY. The two I now have are 27 jewel movements , both gold with white dials, and gold bracelets.
I am never succumbed to those things, and a clunky Apple watch, no way. It's always been analog for me, I like my round dial with hands marking hours and minutes.
Back in 1970 one of our flight surgeons was making a little extra by bootlegging Seiko watches out of SE Asia. I bought a Seiko Bellmatic in a gold tone off him and wore it daily for about 15 years, until it got rather shabby looking. Just recently I found a pristine unused model on ebay, the...
The movement is a BALL RR1102, which I do not think is chronograph quality, but I do not need that. I have had tritium watches before and like very much as other luminous material available now does not glow very long after being exposed to light. Your feelings on the bracelet vs leather...
I bought aa CZ 550 Safari American in .375 H&H a few years back, lovely flame figure in the stock. I had my pick of it, a .416 Rigby and .458 Lott at a Gander mountain, all on sale. I thought and chose the .375 so I could afford to shoot it more, and will never visit any place where I would...
I am carrying a Sig P938, a miniature 9mm in 1911 Colt format. I carry it with round chambered cocked and locked in a pocket holster by Red Dog Gunleather , that is a wallet style, and has a thin flap that folds over the gun butt so if it shows the gun is not visible, only the flap of the...
My only binoculars is a pair of Pentax 8x40, I bought in a military BX in Izmir, Turkey back in 1972. Probably not the greatest then, and from what I hear about the new ones now, definitely not, but the were all I could afford at the time, and they have and still serve me well.
Yes, rough on the ears and hand. I have a big S&W classic hunter, non fluted cylinder, and a long barrel 7 3/8 if I remember right and factory ported so it is rather loud. Ear muffs are definitely the fashion of the day when shooting this one
I have a couple of "irons" my wife and I picked up in Turkey when I was stationed there about 45 years ago. THey probably stand about 5" tall exclusive of the handle, have a hinged top, and a grate inside where you place burning charcoal to have a hot iron.
I have quite a collection, and most gets used at times. My wife says it's too heavy for her arthritic hands, so most of it is kept in a cabinet outside. One of my favorites is a large round bottom pot with lid, that holds a little over 5 Gal. We use it for making large batches of soups...
