Thanks, Anthony. This one has that big, boxy crown, a '40s issue. They do vary though, don't they? I sometimes refer to this one as my most perfect hat.
I had them do some work on several hats and was always steered toward a complete refurb even though the hat may not have needed it. When I did commit to the refurb, though, the work was superb. It's too bad if this is true.

Fruno, I think you're correct about a possible relationship with Hatco at some point. Given the age of the company there is a possibility they may have supplied materials to B-R.
I found the eBay listing that Tom posted. The seller's description is like a lot of other hat listings I come...
A couple of articles and a video about Serratelli. They're based in New Jersey. One article mentions their "back office" in Texas, but no mention of a relationship to Resistol.

Dave--first the caveat: I own three Akubras. I have three Premier Stratoliners and have handled several other modern Stetsons. So it's a small sample size.
Based on my experience and what I read here, Akubra does a better job with quality control. All my Akubras are well made. No flaws in the...
I have a Moonstone in Heritage grade and a Bluegrass Green in Imperial grade and they feel the same as far as finish and softness. They have each softened up since I got them but neither one was stiff when I first received it. The only difference is the sweatband on the Heritage is a little bit...
When it comes to quality, vintage still wins, custom comes in not far behind. Hatco will have to address the obvious QC issues if they expect to continue to get our share of the market. I'm not sure if they care, since they do enough volume in westerns and other styles and are trying to get more...
