Rephrasing wasn't necessary. I realized you didn't mean they can't be worn in the rain.
Bringing up the brim, does beg the question...what is the practical width limit of a lightweight?
I just jumped in line for my second hat from Art Fawcett. My first is a dressweight oxblood. I'm definitely going with a lighter colored hat for the next one, but would like some input. I've looked all over the place and I've not been able to find any information that directly compares...
I wouldn't wear mine so high if not for the necessity (big noggin, etc.). I prefer them lower. But, yeah, high, low, medium...it's all personal preference.
This subject fascinates me. The determining factor on how low my hat sits for me is crown height and the type of crease. Even with a deep teardrop on Federation IV, I could go no lower than "almost two fingers". It always feels like the wind from someone walking by briskly could knock it off my...
2 hours and 15 minutes, not that I'm counting. :cheers1:
That is the truth. Until I get my next VS hat, every piece of clothing I purchase will match this hat.
It sure is, on both counts. I'm already contemplating what color I'm going to go with for my next one. I'm definitely going with the same dimensions. The crown height and brim width are absolutely perfect. It's so versatile. I can go all the way from brim up with a t-shirt and jeans to brim down...
I was a couple beers in when I received Art's call, letting me know it was my turn. It was a brief, but good conversation (speaking for myself). I decided on his very last oxblood, 6" open crown, 2.5" brim, 1.75" ribbon (I believe he said it's burgundy) with his signature splash of color, and...
I have a "bad" feeling that you're right on the money. I really like the hats he's made for you by the way. Yes, I think I remember every photo and every name associated with every photo in this thread now. lol
Starting not too long after I joined this forum, I've wanted to have Art make me a hat, but I was always afraid to do so, for fear that in my ignorance, I'd end up with a hat I really didn't want. So I waited, and waited, and waited...
And then finally, a month ago, I decided it was time. I...
I bought this hat not too long ago. Initially, I didn't really care for it, but it's now my favorite hat. It took a bit of tinkering with the bash, until I liked it.
The crown is 6" (open), 2 1/4" brim. Although I'm no expert, I'm sure the ribbon is not original, and I'm going to have that...
I use Scout Felt Hat Rain & Stain Repellent on my Akubra Federations and will continue to do so. I wear them all the time. I've hunted and hiked in downpours while wearing them, and the repellent definitely is well worth using in my humble opinion.
