Crotch flair aside, I suspect the 888's are an excellent fit for the regular shaped man. Jeans with taper look tidier and more modern on medium to large sized men.
I remember not being able to do up the top button of mine for the first week, and then for a while I had to stick my thumb into my shirt or t shirt to get a few layers of fabric between me and the button. I remember reading that the 23oz are even nastier than the 25oz (not tried the 25s).

Iron Hearts have 'properly made' square bottomed pockets that seem slightly deeper because of their sensible shape, but they're quite shallow for me. IH 888'd have a one inch deeper pocket, which interestingly (to me) came about very shortly after I kept on asking for it on the IH forums.

Edit: It annoys me that the model and photographer didn't choose to do up the sleeve zips... it looks so sloppy with sleeves too wide and long for the model.
Definitely speak with the manufacturers direct. I'm 6'1 and a little heavier than you, and have done a lot of weightlifting and sport in my life, and have had all sorts of clothing issues, especially due to massive thighs. Your chest is huge compared to your waist, (while I have only a 10" drop)...
