Thought this was a pretty interesting article.
I'm not really all that retro, but I do tend to like older type things. I'm 24 now but my fiance does often say that I'm "such an old man"... even her engagement ring was hand-made at least 50 years ago...
I have 2 bags from these folks. I haven't tried either Dopp kit, but I can say the construction of my bags is absolutely top-notch.
No it's not leather, and it doesn't look vintage, but it does have a lifetime warranty, is made in the US by former US military "riggers".
You can even e-mail...
Couple of tips for you here.
I *NEVER* wear a button up shirt without something underneath, personally I can get a bit "sweaty" and like having the extra layer to keep it off my outer shirt.
That in mind, I think A-shirts/wifebeaters/whatever look dumb, as you mention you can always see...
Thanks,
I'd be interested *especially* in pant legs, as I'm pretty stumpy and it's very difficult to find proper fitting pants. However I would be interested to go as far as altering shirts for better fit etc.
Just a random question since I know a lot of people here are into doing their own stuff, and "learning the art" so to speak..
Has anyone tried to pick up tailoring for themselves or others, as a simple hobby?
I know traditionally it involves years of apprenticeship etc, but I was just...
Lamy Logo fine tip fountain in my shirt pocket, and Fisher "Bullet" space-pen in my wallet as a backup.
I love Fountains but like the space-pen... it ALWAYS works first time.
One day I came to work, it was raining, and I had just gotten my dark brown Stetson, so I wore that with my London Fog trench coat (unfortunately, black, so I didn't match).
My hat is pretty darn close to an "indy" hat, but that day the IT guy at work says "look at Mr. Sherlock Holmes". I was...
The narrowest place of my "torso" is either above or below my stomach... My mom always said it's at your belly-button, but for me pants don't stay up that high unless I were to use suspenders. They fall down to sit at the narrowest place which is right at the bottom of my stomach, above my hips.
I seem to remember this being discussed in great detail a while back, and the concensus was that if you are inside in "public" places wearing a hat is acceptable.
I walk into work in my hat, and remove it at the same time as my coat, before sitting down.
Certainly I think keeping that...
Thanks, we don't really get all that much snow, maybe acumulate a foot or so over the winter. More just slush and such. I want some tread but doesn't have to be terribly aggressive. My dress shoes are just plain ol leather with no tread. Then again I've been known to go traipsing in the snow...
Thanks for the note! Sportsman's Guide has some that are interesting, but of course not available in my size! You did remind me though that I have a local LL Bean and they have an interesting pair on their website. May have to see if they have them in the store...
I don't necessarily need anything "serious" just something to get me through the winter. At 24, $300+ for any shoes is just out of my price range.
I'm just looking for something store-bought. I may try some red-wings but even those are $200+
All-purpose "winter" shoes
Hello folks,
Anyone here have suggestions on a decent boot/shoe for winter use? Something fairly flexible I can wear with "business casual" or jeans. With our first snow this past Saturday I'm thinking I'd like something more durable than my regular dress shoes...
Spy Kids Trenchcoat
Ok, so while I was killing time waiting for the world series the other night, Spy Kids 3 was on TV... I noticed in the beginning of the movie Juni is wearing a pretty slick looking trenchcoat. Just wondering if anyone knows what this is, or if it is commercially available...
Thanks,
A new ribbon is not really an option, or at least a last resort. I don't have any nearby hatmakers or even hat stores. Would have to send it out and just not something I want to spend the $ on.
I was thinking of dabbing with some woolite solution, or steaming perhaps. Sponge sounds...
Help!
I was at the Hilton Head concours and vintage racing this weekend, and underestimated the heat/humidity mix and got pretty sweaty under my "new" Royal Stetson (which stayed in the car for the afternoon). The felt and sweatband seem ok, but there are now visible sweat-stains in the...
I'd say they're coming back a tad. Not, maybe, traditional felt ones, but I have seen them at the Puma outlet, Wal-Mart and Lids. At least some variation of a fedora style hat.
I wear mine frequently and have yet to get any sort of negative remark. People either don't seem to notice/care...
What is your solution? I did a search for posts by you and high pockets regarding woolite and didn't find any mention of this problem or solution.
Thanks!
