Do you mind to mention a few? I'm not disputing that there are better available, I'm just curious what some might be.
As far as what is AE better than? Just about any mass market shoe... Aside from cowboy boots, pretty much all the shoes I see are the disposable made in china variety.
Incidentally, AE are the nicest of what I have, and I've been pretty happy. What do you consider much better (aside from "bespoke")? I'm aware of Alden, but that's about it as far as premium dress shoes.
I know Brooks Brothers has some high end stuff too.
as far as "decently made" you're going to be hard pressed to do better than Allen Edmonds at the price. Yes these show about double your range, but I picked up a pair at the outlet for $129 I think... They are part of the "seasonal" collection and will likely be on clearance in the spring...
That's... unfortunate, but not unforseen.. Since jeans are now "dressing up" (seen at churches and offices) then casual must be something less than jeans. I do know I've seen plenty of "guys" in baggy sweatpants, gym/"basketball" shorts, or pajama pants out and about.
Here's an interesting...
Interesting stuff, I never knew business casual had an actual definition! I'm one of very few in my office that wears actual dress shoes. I think our dress code excludes "athletic sneakers" but plenty of people where hiking/work boots, etc.
Oh I'm aware that they exist, but not "around here" to my knowledge, and furthermore as you confirm, not the type that could produce a vest/waistcoat for <$40
That's pretty slick. Wish we had real tailors in the USA that could do stuff like that for prices like that! Most of our "Tailors" are someone at a dry cleaner that might be able to take up slacks if you're lucky.
What is "supposed" to be "business casual" then? I'm young yet but I've worked in 3 states, 3 "office" environments and one that was less "officy" (http://www.natc-ht.com/) all of which have said their dress code is "business casual"
At the NATC "business casual" meant jeans and a...
As I said, "business casual" = khaki and polo (I hate polos, button down for me), and "casual" = jeans... basically the only difference.
But again... if jeans are good enough for friday why not good enough for everyday? Conversely if jeans are not good enough Mon-Thurs why are they OK on...
You actually caught onto my point here where I think others missed it. For a company to have a specific dress code you assume that whoever made up the dress code had some reason they made the rules the way they did. Whether you think it is for more productivity, better projection to customers...
I'm one of the young'ns on this board but I'll recount a bizarre conversation I had with a friend some time ago. I'm 28, this conversation may have been 2-3 years ago. Friend is a year younger than me. I don't remember how it came up, but I made the comment "You know, it's weird to think...
I'll add another, more a concept than an invention.
"Casual Friday" : The only logical reason for some sort of dress code (whatever it may be) at work is that it somehow improves your function at a job. It is deemed by the powers that be that wearing a suit and tie, or khakis and polo or...
Rather unfortunate.. I hope Allen Edmonds is around for some time to come. This didn't occur to me until just now, what about Brooks Brothers? I know some of their men's shoes are top notch, made by Allen Edmonds and/or Peale (UK)...
You mention twice, do tell what "co-respondents" are. I searched and just found it as a legal term, nothing to do with shoes.
As far as my own "mid dating" whilst I don't dress to a certain era, one (rainy) day I came into work wearing
1) Brown stetson fedora -"Indy" ish
2) Basic black...
Getting into these threads late... I'll add a few.
Automatic transmissions - I know this predates 1960, but they're annoying!
"Transportation appliance" type cars (econoboxes, or whatever you want to call them)
"Sport Sedan" and other crazy automotive paradoxes. I like full size sedans and...
