I need to see that one again. Still hard to get used to Dick Powell as a tough guy after seeing 42nd Street or any of those Busby Berkeley musicals! I will have to check out those other Mitchum noirs.
I don't generally recommend trying to stretch hats up a size. The risks are considerable--popping all the stitching in the sweatband, tearing a dry sweatband, distorting the brim so it never looks good again, ending up with a hat that looks too small even if it fits, or just ending up with a...
Thanks, Randy! It did turn out great and was a fun process—I told Randall I wanted a grey hat and he showed me pictures of about six vintage felt bodies he had to choose from. Then photos of the vintage ribbons he had he thought would go well with it. And there you go—a custom vintage hat. ;)
A Christmas present to myself— a @Randall Renshaw recreation using a donor Stetson St Regis felt, vintage ribbon and a very comfortable RRR sweatband. A nice way to close out the year—thanks Randall!
