we could go on ad infinitum polo, but the most basic fact is that what alpha sent to vietnam for our U.S. military will work for me. rickson may in fact put better fabric, and better production in their product than original milspec (i don't know), which some people may prefer, but what went to...
mystery live on, or not
truly a fascinating subject. i can't add any more but to point out what both Hy Slavin of alpha, AND buzz rickson, state...that the fabric for the L-2A and L-2B are the same. on the rickson site they specifiy the same exact advertising hyperbole on their L-2A and L-2B...
difference in fabrics?
thought i'd take you up on this polo, and quite honestly, i don't see a difference between the buzz rickson replica L-2A fabric, the alpha L-2A fabric, and the actual vietnam issue L-2B by alpha, which used the same flight satin as in their U.S. military contracted...
the nylon controversy
thanks polo for the info, but it still looks to me like buzz hype (i like that phrase!) from rickson. here's their statement: 'Buzz Rickson’s heavy nylon twill fabric is never to be confused with the cheap, flimsy flight satin used by lesser manufacturers to produce...
just to respond edward, the flight satin on my new b-15 and n-2b is the same as on my 10-year old b-15. Hy stated that on all flight jackets that were made with flight satin/nylon twill (ma, cpu, b-15, n-2b, n-3b, L-2a, L-2b, etc.), that these were all the govt spec fabric they still use on...
CORREX on L-2A fabric
hi polo...saw your post and was confused since the fabric on the buzz L-2A looked exactly like what alpha uses on their L-2A and all their flight jackets that had been made under U.S. mil contract.
they did make the L-2A under contract to the U.S. military, according to...
note for the zipper...cockpit offers their standard A-2, which is indeed a moderny normative jacket. but they also have vintage models, more pricey, which are fantastic. i own a horsehide ww2 flying tiger which is a very accurate repro, perhaps not the label, but everything else. horsehide...
as the sleaves wear, they crease and take up some of the length, but they are long (tho don't look bad) and can use a shortening when you feel like it.
as for the fit, i personally wear my jackets close to this relaxed fit. all of them, motorcycle to nylon military to leather military...if you...
alpha, cont....
appreciate the interest, not because i work for alpha (which i do not), but because i’ve fallen in love with them.
after reading the questions here, i fell into reporter mode and called alpha for answers. the customer service rep put me through to one of the staff, Hi, who...
after exhausting the range of purchasable leather jackets, from A-2 to G-1 to G-2, to ww2 luftwaffe, to motojax like café racer, schott 644, vanson perforated sportrider, hein gericke, alpina, joe rocket...on and on and on...
after all that, finally reaching the end of that insanity, there was...
i agree with all of you. i've got quite a nice collection of eastman/hein gericke/vanson/schott/etc jackets i bought new, but i found myself wearing an old B-15 alpha i threw in the back of my car. i was blown away how rugged the nylon was, each time i scraped something that would have torn a...
wow
a real cooper. i've seen knowledgable (or apparently so) say cooper as a ww2 maker was apocryphal, mythical, and there was no proof of cooper actually making these.
i think that was said in absolute fashion, meaning whether THiS cooper was made by a company relatable to the erstwhile...
excelled a-2?
hi...i don't know when it happened, but excelled became an actual contracted maker of both A-2 and G-1 jackets to the military. tho they've been around quite a while, i only know that they've been contracted makers in the last 5 years. of course the current A-2s are made to...
new alpha n-2b
hey jeff...i just bought a new alpha N-2B from alpha online. they are so incredibly helpful and even measured the back for me (slightly longer than their B-15s). even used an online coupon to get it delivered ups for $131. i'm going to do a review, but i can say this jacket is...
