Hey Peacoat,
Do you watch "Finding Bigfoot"? My wife doesn't believe, but I do. They did one segment here up in Dutchess Co. We're 60 miles north of the Bronx. I guess there are some in northern Dutchess. Even though we're in southern Dutchess I hope I don't see one in the woods in back of my house.
From "Peacoats' Dating" sticky the tag looks like a '66. The pockets should be corduroy - more then likely the very common yellow color. I have two size 46L(Long), and one 46XL(Extra Long) coats. The lengths are as follows :
2002 46XL - 361/2
1969 46L - 36
1969 46L - 351/2
I make these...
1958 Pea Coat
Hey Guys,
Just my two cents here. I have a 1958 size 46. It is one of the most beautiful years for US Navy pea coats. The Kersey wool they used at that time was gorgeous. I have bought quite a few pea coats on ebay. You can't beat the prices, and I have gotten excellent coats...
I think I have 8. One Melton, and 7 Kersey. The small hall closet I have them in cannot fit anything else on the pole - the closet is full. This is the mothball closet as I put each coat in a clothing bag hung up, and also use mothballs to keep those little critters away. I also can't wait to...
I'm not sure, and I could be wrong, but I don't think Vi Mil made any Kersey coats, and made only Melton. I think they had the contract long after Kersey was gone.
I see that there is a coat hook loop at the top of the inside lining. I'm wondering what years they had that loop. I know most of my old coats don't have this.
Hello Mr. Peacoat,
How are you? I could be wrong but I think I saw a coat on ebay with a "US Navy" tag and the year was 1956. The last number was "-56". I have never seen a1955 tag, nor a 1957 tag. I do have a '58 with the "US Navy" tag. Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents here.
Last year I was very lucky enough to find a WWII on ebay in my size which is 46. WWII coats in this size are very rare. The condition of the coat was also MINT. The buttons and button holes were still a little tight. That's how little wear it had. I love WWII coats, but I think I like the post...
I just bought a new pair of the US Navy 13 button sailor wool pants. These are the pants which are worn with the "crackerjack" navy shirts. The seller told me they were made in 1988. I have a few questions concerning these.
1) The color of these pants is black. Were the older pants (50s-70s)...
I just saw on the Vintage Trends website a size 46 (my size) pea coat in excellent condition. The price was a whopping $375.00. I just bought a pea coat from them last year. It was a size 46 and was supposed to be in mint condition (almost, but not quite). I think the price was $225.00. I did...
Thank you for your replies. My goatskin A-2 is still as good as new. I was just wondering if in the future it did need something what I should use. Not doing anything sounds good to me. I do have to admit that I do like the smell of saddle soap. I usually wear this A-2 on rainy days. I wear my...
Beautiful collection. I have just one Cockpit A-2. I'm more into pea coats. I live right near Poughkeepsie, Beacon, and Newburgh. I didn't even know that back then they had those leather coat companies around here. I don't have to tell you that they are long gone.
The older dark navy blue Kersey coats are even quite a bit nicer then the modern day black Melton coats - way nicer in fact. If you have a common size there are many of them that go on ebay. The big season starts in Oct. and goes through the winter. If you ever come across one I'm sure you...
Are you sure the number on the size tag is the exact same number that is in the inside pocket? If the numbers are different the manufacture date would come from the number on the inside pocket and not on the size tag under the collar. If so, the 01 in that number would indicate that the coat was...
I gave my son age 24 my 1965 pea coat. I even paid quite a few bucks to have it altered for him. He hardly ever wears it. He wears his "designer type" inspired one instead. I thought the real one looked great when he wore it, but what can you do???
You can buy the real thing on Ebay. You do have to wait till your size is posted though. There are a few categories you can look under - DSCP shirt, USAF uniform shirt, USAF Khaki shirt, USAF dress shirt. I have bought US Marines, and US Navy shirts which were new surplus, and I have a large...
I think this "old US Navy pea coat" thing is catching on. I'm not surprised though. They're beautiful, warm, and on Ebay have fairly reasonable prices. I think alot of people are making them life time keepers also. I know I am. I won't sell any that fit me. As we know the supply is limited, and...
It's been a couple of months since I checked out the pea coats at Vintage Trends. Wow! Their prices are really getting up there. I've noticed a big increase since last year. We are very lucky to have Ebay!!
