Peacoat,
I wonder if you have ever come across this? A few years ago I bought a coat for my son. It was Melton material but was not 100% black. It was very dark blue, almost black but darker then the old Kersey blue. I forget the year but it was mid - late '70s. So I'm thinking that the first...
The weather here in NY is now springtime. Won't need the pea coats for a week or so. I reckon it must be the El Nino. Supposed to be record breaking highs.
t seem to be a definite button position from coat to coat. The buttons are pointed in different angles from coat to coat
Some of the angles vary even more the 30 degrees. Some less then 30 degrees. I'm surprised at this. You would think that there would be an exact spec for these button...
I just checked my 10 pea coats. From what I can gather :
1) The original buttons are all sewn on with the anchor usually in a diagonal approx. at 30 degrees, with the bottom of the anchor always facing down. . The right side of buttons face diagonally towards the opening of the coat, and the...
What is your size? If it's a common size (38-42) there are many US Navy peacoats on ebay. These are the best peacoats out there - that is dark blue, Kersey wool, and made pre-mid '70s as these coats switched to the lesser quality black Melton wool after this. Look for an excellent condition...
What size do you need? If it's a common size it shouldn't take too long to find an excellent Kersey coat. The larger the size the larger the price though. Finding these coats has turned into a year round process. I have a few Kersey coats in size 46 and 46L. I had to scour ebay everyday for a...
I'm assuming our resident Professor of Peacoats, "Peacoat" , would know quite a bit about my quick questions here, but feel free to chime in. Peacoat - when did you start scouring ebay for Kersey peacoats? At that time I'm assuming there were many more Kersey peacoats listed , and in a large...
Looks like a nice excellent condition coat. Probably a late WWII or post war. It could be a naval officer coat from the Naval Academy since it has the gold buttons? Or maybe the owner had gold buttons put on it? Which buttons do you think you like best?
I have 10 wool US Navy pea coats. From April through Oct. I put each one in a separate vinyl clothes/coat bag, and hang each coat on an extra shoulder long plastic hanger. Instead of putting mothballs in every coat I leave a box of moth balls opened so that everything in the closet gets...
I answered my own question. I couldn't find any new vintage Wrangler jackets on the internet. They have a "rugged" model in a long size, but I don't like that one at all. I need a long , or tall size. I can look on ebay, but size 48L(Long) does not show up very often. I still have the one from...
Does anyone know if Wrangler makes a new vintage denim jacket # WPL 6428? I bought one in Oct. 1981. It is 100% cotton, and has two chest pockets with flaps, and two hand pockets. I believe this was the "standard", common Wrangler model back then and earlier. I looked on the internet but didn't...
I got a little carried away with the peacoats. I now have 2 black Meltons, and 8 dark blue Kerseys. One reason was that my size is a bit rare - 46 or 46L(Long). I have my "wool" closet all filled up so there is no more room for woolens. I have one WWII and the rest are from '51-'69. " I fought...
Looks like it is in mint condition. I was very lucky when I found a WWII coat in mint condition in my size of 46 a few years ago. WWII coats are very rare in size 46 and in mint condition. The inside label on yours looks almost new. It looks great.
The "Naval Clothing Depot" tag usually includes coats made from approximately the late '40s through the early '50s. The corduroy pockets are a pale, light yellow. It's possible they were changed, but it does sound odd.
