Well thank you Sir. I used to post here quite a bit but stopped for a long time due to always saying the wrong thing! Mainwaring is from an old tv programme called Dad's Army (UK programme in case you are not of these shores)
Thank You. yes it feels lovely to the touch and the fit is certainly less boxier than the regular HWM. A much nicer hide for this jacket I think. Aero says it closely resembles the much loved Conolly hide. You clearly know your stuff and good to know the black retains it's "blackness" over time...
Recieved my new 59'er HWM last week. Opted for the standard soft grainy steerhide (only available in black and selected lighter hides) and the wild card lining. I am very pleased with the quality and craftmanship (womanship in this case as Amy put it together). It really is faultless in it's...
Problem with leather gloves as with leather packs/bags is it can be overkill if you are wearing a leather jacket. I only wear my leather gloves with my Barbour jacket. Cannot remember the name of them now but Google it, there are plenty of more upmarket stores that sell good quality leather...
Me too, usually put on one of my three barbour's rather than a leather jacket. I find the weather is not often conducive to leather wear. Also i am not allowed to wear leather in the car with the wife, she don't like the smell! Still I would not part with any of them and when I do wear them I...
That's a beauty. I often think steerhide is more pleasing to look at and wear than horse. Seeing your jacket gives me hope my 59'er HWM in their "soft grainy black steerhide" on order with Aero will have the potential to look as cool as your jacket one day. Aero claim it is not dissimilar to the...
I second this. I have jackets from both, they both make great jackets and polotics aside they are both lovely people to deal with. Get what you like and listen to their advice on fit/sizing.
Thank you Canucke, lovely fitting jackets there. For some reason the Kelpie did not grab me, perhaps because not many folk here seem to own one. Will have to reconsider it. Cheers.
Yes I like the Badallasi but as some one mentioned likely too heavy for the style of jacket. All those commenting mention goat. Initially I thought no as it really does not develop patina/character, at least not for the first few decades! However I will have to look again.
No one has mentioned...
Thank you Pandemic. I had seen the battered steer pics before, looks amazing. What is the top pic leather? Goat, sadly I may not live long enough to see any patina developing at least that is what I am led to believe!
I am a fan of the Badallasi russet but as another member stated it maybe a...
That sounds top advice. I love the idea and look of the Badalassi but I wondered if it would be a tad heavy and stiff perhaps. Vicenza I am not sure of. I may ultimately opt for the battered steer. Many thanks
Thank you for that. I have a feeling Badalassi will come out on top. Shame it is an extra £120 on top of the jacket price. Goat is not an option I have considered mainly as it does not patina-up in a hurry!.
