Hello, All. From the "no harm in asking" corner, I'm on the lookout for a Bootlegger in 40 or 42 (or possibly 38, if the measurements work). I'm pretty flexible on the leather, color, even condition within reason. This will be my first Aero and while I'm not absolutely limiting myself to the...
I hear you. It's tempting, but I'm a little over 5'10" and a "normal" 40 is usually about right for me in a highwayman. That 24" back length is probably just a hair too short.
Today is my Norshor A-2, which the more I wear the more I'm gobsmacked by.
I was having dinner with my nephew, who just finished C School for the Navy and is about to get his first deployment. He looked at the jacket and said "That makes you look like you have stories to tell."
This is an interesting topic to me, because I see lots of very nice-looking deerskin jackets on places like Etsy going for quite reasonable pricing because deerskin is unfashionable for the reasons stated above. And of course the fact that they're "no-name" jackets made by some long-gone maker...
Thanks - here's a couple more pics to show the fit. The hide is interesting - medium-thick and heavy but not stiff, beautiful grain. Never having owned a Goodwear or Kelso Badalassi or the like, I don't know what it would compare to in a modern production cowhide jacket.
Another new one - this is an "experimental" David D. Doniger stand-collar A-2 in veg-tanned cowhide from Mark at Norshor. It's not custom (though unworn) but I think the fit is really good - it has a couple of anachronous features from other contracts so isn't 100% spec to the historical...
I wish that were true! :D There is some bamboo there, which makes me nostalgic for Japan.
Sadly, the other side of the fence is just.... The other side of the fence.
Well, it's better to look good than to feel good... I don't know what it is about the styling on that jacket - it's very simple, really. Maybe that's the point.
It doesn't constrict my breathing or anything - it's just a bit more fitted across the torso than I'm used to, but then I've never...
So, I snagged that 40's Albert Richard from Mr. Mitchell. It's obviously in pretty amazing shape for a 70-ish year-old jacket, and the cut is really something (as you can see). It's special, no doubt about it.
My only concern, honestly, is the fit - I'm worried it might be a bit snug around...
