Thanks for the links Steve. Perhaps I will add this over in the British tread as well
They are "Dermotta". I would guess we bought them from the same person. Did Josh ever post anything about his?
Ours came from the Czech Republic. They went in pretty easy, although I cheated a little and used...
Here is a little project Garrett and I have been working on. This is an English Thoresco Velour that has a full overhaul and is paired with some awesome NOS Agrippa hat clips.
We've been waiting on the clips for a while now, but like the few hats Steve has, I think it makes a cool unique look...
Hey Eric, I'll chime in on the one sided ribbon treatment as to not falsely get credit for a vintage idea.
I first saw this in my early days of hat shaping at a western wear shop. I believe the hat was a mid sixties Champ.
A few years later I found this hat
This started me on a blue...
That's a cool photo spread Mike, thanks as always for posting. Another good day with you in the shop. The Garrett tease cracks me up.
And if anybody is wondering, no, Mike isn't on the take. He just has a healthy hat addiction and lives a little to close to the dealer :p, but hey, it's better...
Well, I don't think I need to add this, but... name is Bob and I make hats ;)
Kudos on the post Moon, there is something about this that reminds me of the ol' day on the lounge.
When in doubt, pass it on. It's still a nice looking hat that somebody would be happy with. I mean, heck, just might be somebody out there that thinks that a vintage restyling is cool.
Wait, we can start calling Winchester felt "ecologically harvested beaver felt from Tennessee"
Who knew, not only does he own a blow torch, but a good imagination as well.
As I am always curious about those vintage details, and you have more than one example, are they a soft metal? Like a tin or aluminum that is flexible to open and then pinch the felt? Or is it more substantial?
WOW a size 8 is almost unheard of. Talk about albino whales. I'm guessing they are basing the price on the size because if that were a more standard size it, wouldn't fetch close to that.
I total missed reading "hat" in that sentence and thought it said "So what is your wife wearing today"
For just a second I thought... well here is a twist I didn't see the lounge taking. Glad it didn't go down that path.
You seem interested in the travel hat idea so you should check out this tread Roll out your Roll-ups for some vintage inspiration.
If I am not mistaken Borsalino still makes their classic roll-up. Perhaps someone on the Borsalino tread may have some current info on their quality for you as well.
