What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Stopped by Golden Gate Western Wear/Knudsen hats, hoping to grab a can of Kahl's stiffener, but they didn't have any. Bought a horse hair band instead! VS Stetson refurb

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

Question: when cutting the ends of the sweat to join, what's the correct angle? I did the google trick on the lounge but it only lead me to posts referencing dead links.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

My Randal Alan block and flange are on the way, my tools arrived from Rick the other day. So I made a bow! I patterned it after my old Stetson ranger hat, my Boss Raw Edge also has the same style. My bowkeep ended up slightly slimmer, because I think they used a wider piece originally, I don't...

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

Certainly seems plausible. My read of the original comment was more in a general sense about the hat industry though. For instance, Cody Wellema talked about some of his trials and tribulations getting started in hatting on the Handcut podcast. He mentions folks were resistant to sharing...

    Black Sheep Hat Works

I heard from him in May about an order that's been 2 years. Bob has always come through for me, even if he seems pop on and off the grid every so often. maybe try giving him a ring? Phone number is on the site. http://www.blacksheephatworks.com/Inquiries.html

It was a coin toss between this and gunsmoke, believe me! It's a shame about FEPSA, I wonder what their issue is. I did want to grab one more before stock ran out. They're such nice felts. Both the cypress and moonshine are new shades to my hat collection. Well, they're only hat parts so...

    Flattening Brim & Stitching Sweatband?

I believe he kept on hand sewing everything. John Penman still hand sews everything too. Now, I'll preface this with: I haven't built my first hat, so I have NO IDEA what I'm talking about from practical side. But there is this belief on COW that's been repeated a few times that sewing machines...

    Flattening Brim & Stitching Sweatband?

BTW, in case it's been lost here on TFL, "Fedora" = Steve Delk of Adventurebilt hats, who made Harrison Ford's hat for Indy IV.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Great work! I just watched Last Crusade the other day, it's my favorite Indy movie. Richard Swales (who did the Raiders hat at HJ) infamously cut them by hand with scissors!

The Non Shorpy Web All Stars.

The back and forth of the travel restrictions (COVID notwithstanding) is really disappointing. I had the opportunity to go back in high school during a period of looser regulations and it was an amazing experience. All the old American cars are taxis now! In front of the Capitol in Havana...

Also grabbed a moonshine FEPSA felt from Tim/Pure Beaver... It's ever so slightly more blue hued in person. Interestingly, also slightly stiffer than the Cypress felt. No ideas for a build, I just liked the color.

    Hats on TV

I really enjoyed Hell on Wheels and got my dad hooked on it too. Colm Meany (Thomas Durant) is one of my favorite actors actually, due to his long time stint in Star Trek (Next Generation and Deep Space Nine). Funnily enough, Anson Mount (Cullen) turned his Star Trek Discovery guest starring...

    The Open Road Guild

Gannon is listed at $325 currently Northwest at $375 Hornskov is around $375 there are probably others, this is just off the top of my head. on subject though, Hatco's tobacco Brown is a nice, rich, tone. It's the felt used on my Fortune and Glory.

What hat are you waiting for today?

The website shows 2-3 weeks, and I believe that COVID has not changed that substantially. The most recent review post over on COW says it was "about a month" for theirs.

What hat are you waiting for today?

I took the plunge and ordered a beaver Raiders Poet from Herbert Johnson. The Indy hat is the reason I started wearing hats, and although my Fortune and Glory is among my most favorite lids, I do really feel like HJ's blocks now do capture the Indy look that was missing from previous versions...
